Cabbage stewed in a frying pan
Firstly, this dish will turn out much tastier if the cabbage is first fried until it changes color to light brown.
Secondly, the thinner it is chopped, the better. The same applies to onions - it is advisable to cut them into thin half rings and fry separately in oil until golden brown. And add the selected spices here. When fried, they will release more flavor. Suitable ones include: ground pepper, coriander, paprika.
In addition to the main products: cabbage and onions, you can add carrots and garlic to the dish. This will not change the taste so much as it will enrich it. Additional ingredients will change it significantly. Among these: mushrooms, meat, chicken, sausages, potatoes, tomatoes, zucchini. With the addition of some of them we get a hearty stew or hodgepodge.
It is recommended to choose a wide frying pan with a thick bottom. Keep in mind that you may have to fry the cabbage in two stages if you need to prepare the food for more than 2-3 servings. Because it is important that it is first fried and not stewed. When cooked, the cabbage should be soft and dark in color. If there is too much of it in the pan, the vegetable will release more juice and stewing will begin immediately. Then the dish will be no different from cooking in a saucepan.
Ready-made onions with spices and garlic (optional) are added to the fried cabbage. Next, everything is stewed for 5-10 minutes - the exact time depends on the hardness of the cabbage head. If the recipe includes carrots, they are fried before the onions. For greater juiciness, add a little water and cover the pan with a lid.
You can serve by sprinkling chopped fresh herbs and green onions on top.
