Mulled wine is a strong drink (in every sense) in the countries of Northern and Central Europe. Translated from German, it’s called hot wine.

Mulled wine

The name of this most aromatic drink most likely came to Russia from Poland, since the structure of the word has changed slightly, and we do not pronounce it in its pure form. It is drunk at Christmas in Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. Sometimes for Halloween it is prepared by housewives or at street parties. It really warms and invigorates very well. To prepare mulled wine at home, take red wine material of low and medium strength. According to the rules, the percentage of alcohol in the finished drink should not be lower than seven. To prepare it, you need to heat the wine, add cinnamon, ginger, cloves, honey, lemon zest and star anise. Each spice is taken unground, so it can be easily removed later. Everything warms up, foam appears, continue heating until the foam goes away and the temperature becomes about 75 degrees. We wrap it up, let it sit and help ourselves. The second option for making mulled wine at home is with water. 200 g of water is brought almost to a boil, spices and honey are boiled, a liter of dry red wine is poured in, heated, and then we repeat the previous version. The very first recipe for mulled wine consisted of grape alcohol and galangal herbs from the ginger family; Europeans drank it in the Middle Ages. The Romans had something similar, but they preferred cool things - it was hot there.
