Lazy cabbage rolls in layers

Juicy, aromatic, very tasty and without any hassle! Lazy cabbage rolls are cooked in layers in the oven. This option simplifies the cooking process, since portion formation is not required. The dish baked in its own juice turns out very juicy. The aromatic filling successfully complements it.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make lazy cabbage rolls with layers of minced meat with cabbage and rice in the oven? Prepare the necessary products. You can use any minced meat: chicken, pork, beef or mixed. I have mixed minced meat (pork and beef). Both round and long grain rice are suitable. Read more about the intricacies of choosing rice in a separate article, link at the end of the recipe.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Rinse the rice thoroughly, place in boiling, lightly salted water, and stir. Cook the rice over moderate heat until half cooked. Place the rice in a sieve to drain the water.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Wash the pre-peeled onions and cut into small cubes.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Peel the carrots, wash them, cut them into quarters. If the carrots are thin, you can cut them into slices.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Chop the cabbage into thin strips.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Wash the bell pepper, remove the seeds and stem. Cut the vegetable into small cubes.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan. Read about how to choose the ideal frying pan, as well as how to choose the right vegetable oil in separate articles, links at the end of the recipe. Fry the prepared onions and carrots in a frying pan, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer the vegetables over low heat for another 7-10 minutes.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Use your hands to crush the cabbage so that it becomes softer, place it in the pan with the vegetables, and stir. If the cabbage is young, freshly harvested, it is very juicy. Therefore, it is better not to cover the pan with a lid so that excess moisture evaporates. Fry the vegetables, stirring, until half cooked. They should remain slightly firm. They will reach full readiness in the oven. Salt the cabbage during cooking.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Place bell peppers in the pan and stir.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Combine the minced meat with boiled rice, add salt and ground black pepper. Mix well.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Grease a baking dish with a small amount of vegetable oil. I have a mold measuring 27*17 cm. How to successfully choose a mold for cooking, read the article at the link at the end of the recipe. Place half the cabbage on the bottom of the pan and smooth it out.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

Distribute the minced meat and rice evenly over the cabbage.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

Then lay out the rest of the cabbage in an even layer. Turn on the oven to 190 degrees in advance.

  14. STEP 14

    STEP 14

Prepare the filling. Sour cream is suitable for any fat content. Overripe fresh tomatoes are good. You can use tomato juice or tomatoes in their own juice.

  15. STEP 15

    STEP 15

Wash fresh tomatoes and remove the skin. How to easily peel tomatoes? Wash them and make cross cuts on top with a sharp knife. Place in boiling water for 1-2 minutes. Remove, cool slightly and remove the skin.

  16. STEP 16

    STEP 16

Grind the peeled tomatoes with an immersion blender until pureed.

  17. STEP 17

    STEP 17

Combine tomato puree with sour cream and add a little salt. Add spices and seasonings at your discretion, stir. I added dried basil and herbs de Provence.

  18. STEP 18

    STEP 18

Cover the top layer of the dish with tomato and sour cream filling.

  19. STEP 19

    STEP 19

Bake lazy cabbage rolls in an oven preheated to 190 C for about 35-40 minutes. When the filling thickens noticeably, cover the pan with foil. Then remove the foil and cook the dish for about 25 minutes. Cooking times are approximate and may vary, as they depend on the operating characteristics of the oven. Be sure to take this into account. For a useful article on this topic, read the article at the link at the end of the recipe.

  20. STEP 20

    STEP 20

Cut the lazy cabbage rolls, cooked in layers, into portions and serve. Bon appetit!

I made some delicious layered lazy cabbage rolls for lunch. For vegetables, I took cabbage, onions and carrots. I didn't have bell pepper, I didn't add it. Having cleaned and chopped the vegetables, first of all I placed the onions and carrots in the frying pan, kept them for a while on medium heat and, when the onions became transparent, added the chopped cabbage. I fried and then stewed the vegetables under the lid until half cooked. I combined the minced pork with boiled rice, added salt, and mixed everything well. I made a small form with sides out of foil, layered some of the vegetables, minced meat, and more vegetables in it. I added a filling of sour cream, tomato paste (I took it instead of tomatoes) and milk, took half a glass to make the filling more liquid. I baked cabbage rolls in the oven for 40 minutes at 220°. In the oven, the cabbage and meat became very soft! Sour cream and tomato paste added juiciness and pleasant sourness to them. I really liked this method of cooking lazy cabbage rolls! I will make this recipe again! And I recommend it to everyone! Thank you very much!
