  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make pearl barley porridge with meat in a slow cooker? Prepare all the indicated ingredients. What kind of meat is better to take? The recipe is suitable for absolutely any meat of your choice, be it pork, beef, veal, chicken or turkey. I used pork neck.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

First, soak the pearl barley in cold water for about an hour. You can leave it a little longer, but during the process of stewing in the slow cooker, the cereal softens perfectly.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Rinse the meat in cold water and dry with paper towels to remove any remaining moisture. Cut the pork into small equal-sized pieces. Pour vegetable oil into the multicooker bowl and set the “Fry” mode. When the oil is hot enough, send the meat to fry. Stirring, cook until golden brown.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

At this time, peel the onions, carrots and garlic, rinse and dry. Next, you need to chop the vegetables. For this recipe, I prefer to cut the onions and carrots into large pieces so that each piece can be felt separately in the finished dish. So, cut the onion into large cubes, the carrots into thick cubes, and chop the garlic with a knife. If you wish, you can finely chop the onion, grate the carrots, and pass the garlic through a press.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Add the chopped vegetables to the meat and fry everything together for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally so that nothing burns.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Drain the water from the pearl barley and rinse again. Add the cereal to all the ingredients in the slow cooker. Add salt to taste and sprinkle with your favorite spices. I used cumin and ground paprika.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Pour in water or broth so that it covers the pearl barley by 1.5-2 fingers. Mix everything. Close the multicooker lid and set the “Stew” or “Pilaf” mode. Leave to cook until the beep sounds (I set the time to 1 hour). After the beep, open the lid and stir everything again. Close the lid again and let it brew for 10-15 minutes.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Before serving, sprinkle the porridge with finely chopped herbs. Young green onions, parsley or dill will do.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Sprinkle with ground allspice if desired. Ready!

I cook pearl barley porridge with meat in a slow cooker. I had enough time before dinner, so I didn’t soak the pearl barley, but boiled it for an hour in a slow cooker. After an hour, I transferred the pearl barley to a colander and washed it. I washed the multicooker bowl, added meat to it (I had the flesh of chicken thighs, fried it in vegetable oil, added chopped carrots, onions, garlic, pieces of celery stalk, favorite seasonings. I fried everything together for about 5 minutes, then added washed, boiled barley, chicken broth (if the pearl barley is boiled, you will need a little less broth) and in the “stewing” mode I brought the porridge to readiness (about an hour). Very tasty porridge! Rich, satisfying, aromatic. Dinner is what you need! Thank you, Zhemchuzhina!
