Dishes and drinks with vodka
Currently, vodka is produced in many countries around the world. Moreover, according to their own recipes and technologies. The only difference is that, for example, in Russia and Poland they drink vodka as a separate drink. Whereas in the European Union countries, cocktails are most often prepared with vodka. How did the name “vodka” come about? It is believed that the word “vodka” in written form (on an official state document!) appeared in a decree of Elizabeth I, the Russian Empress. This happened in June 1750. However, the word “vodka” never became widespread in those years. The alcoholic drink that denoted it was for a long time called either “foam,” or “moonshine,” or “half-gar.” And the preparation of moonshine was used throughout Russia. Therefore, the authorship of the word “vodka” is attributed not to Elizabeth the First, but to Alexander Pushkin. It was the great Russian poet who described in one of his works (namely in “The Captain’s Daughter”) the scene where his characters drink the so-called. "anise vodka" There was also a scene in Eugene Onegin that talks about “Russian vodka.” So, with the light hand of the poet, the name “vodka” went to the people and began to be actively used. As a clarification: vodka is a Polish word, translated as “water”. In written form, “vodka” was mentioned in the judicial acts of one of the Polish cities in 1405. And where did the chemist Mendeleev appear next to vodka, why is the preparation of vodka associated with his name? The myth that a Russian chemist allegedly invented 40-proof vodka “Moscow Special” was spread by Pokhlebkin in his book “The History of Vodka.” In fact, this is just a myth; Mendeleev has nothing to do with vodka; he never invented a recipe for vodka.
