Salad Fish under a fur coat

Original, beautiful, incredibly tender and delicious! Salad Fish under a fur coat is nothing more than everyone’s favorite herring. Unlike the classic version, the vegetables in this recipe are grated finer. Try it yourself: if you replace a large grater with a medium one, the salad will turn out hundreds of times tastier.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make Fish under a fur coat salad? Prepare your food. It will be more convenient and faster to use ready-made herring fillets. But you can also cut the fish yourself. Rinse the beets, carrots and potatoes well under running water with a brush.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Dry the herring fillet with a paper towel and cut into small pieces. You can use fresh salted fish or canned fish in oil. I used marinated in oil. Carefully select any bones if they are left in the fillet.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

How to cook vegetables? Cook beets and carrots with potatoes in different pans in boiling water until tender. It takes 15-20 minutes to cook potatoes and carrots. Cooking beets takes 1-1.5 hours, depending on their size. Check readiness with a sharp knife - it should easily pierce the root vegetable. Drain the water and cool the vegetables. Peel the cooled potatoes, carrots and beets. Grate them separately on a medium grater.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

How to hard boil eggs? To prevent eggs from cracking during cooking, place them in cold water and cook over low heat. Boil the eggs for 9 minutes after boiling, then cover with cold water and cool. The shell will be better cleaned from a sharp temperature change. Also grate the cooled eggs on a medium grater.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Place a layer of herring on a serving dish and smooth it out. Spread mayonnaise on top. I piped from a piping bag with a closed star tip so as not to disturb the layer, which usually happens when frosting with a regular spoon.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Next, lay out a layer of boiled potatoes, which also coat with mayonnaise.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

    Then come carrots and mayonnaise.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Place eggs in the next layer and pour mayonnaise over them too.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

The top and last layer is beets.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Make a mesh of mayonnaise on top or simply apply mayonnaise and spread it with a spoon so that the mayonnaise turns pink. Place the finished salad in the refrigerator for 1.5 hours to soak. Then you can serve it to the table. Bon appetit!

My daughter and I really liked the fish under a fur coat salad. We made it larger for our daughter, because all the ingredients in it are simple and there are no onions). My whole carcass was lightly salted herring. Sometimes I take it in a spicy brine, then the taste of the salad turns out to be more intense. By the way, it’s easier to cut herring with disposable gloves, this way there won’t be any smell of fish on your hands, and it’s also more hygienic in my opinion. Grated vegetables and eggs on a medium grater. Indeed, this makes the salad much more tender! I mixed mayonnaise with sour cream so that it would not be so high in calories for the child. The salad was shaped like a fish on a serving platter to match the theme. My daughter was delighted with this salad and happily ate both the herring and the beets). Delicious and light salad! Thank you!

This is also how I cook herring under a fur coat - a classic. I saw the original version of the Shuba salad with champignons.
