    Add sifted wheat flour and soda, slaked with table vinegar, you can use ready-made baking powder, a pinch of vanillin to create a pleasant aroma.

    We knead the elastic and smooth dough; you don’t need to knead the shortbread dough with your hands for a long time, otherwise it will be tight and the products made from it will be hard. Wrap the dough in cling film and put it in the refrigerator for half an hour.

    While the dough is resting, prepare the pie filling. Cranberries have a sour taste, so to make the filling as a whole moderately sour, you need to add sweet apples. If the apples have a hard skin, it is better to remove it and cut out the seed pod. Cut the apple pulp into small pieces or slices.

    Take the “rested” dough out of the refrigerator, divide it into two parts, roll out a larger piece of dough into a layer about 0.5 cm thick, the size of a pie pan. Grease a baking dish with butter and place the dough in it, forming small sides.

    Place cooked apples and washed, dried cranberries on the dough (frozen berries can be used). Sprinkle sugar on top of cranberries.

    From the remaining dough we make a lattice for decorating the pie; if desired, the pie can be decorated in a different way. To make the pie nicely golden brown, brush the top with beaten egg yolk. We send the pie preparation to the oven, preheated to 180 degrees, for 30 minutes, the baking time depends on the operation of the oven and the size of the mold, the juiciness of the filling.

I made a pie with cranberries and apples for tea. The dough turned out very tender and soft. It’s easy and simple to work with, so my daughter actively helped me decorate the pie. It took me about 270 grams of flour for it. I used 20 percent sour cream. Soda was replaced with baking powder (1 tsp). For the filling, instead of fresh apples, I used dried apple slices. I picked both cranberries and apples by eye. Sugar added 2 tablespoons. I baked the pie in a cast iron pan (26 cm in diameter) for about 40 minutes at 180 degrees. The pie turned out very tasty. The dough is tender, slightly crispy, moderately sweet. The combination of tart cranberries and sweet apples is simply wonderful. Thank you very much for the recipe!
