Kurnik on butter and kefir with chicken and potatoes

A delicious, hearty pie for the holiday table and more! Kurnik cooked with kefir cooks very quickly, but turns out very tasty, soft and nutritious, in no way inferior to baked goods made from yeast dough.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

Let's prepare the ingredients according to the list. Let's start by preparing unleavened dough. Pour kefir at room temperature into a bowl; the kefir does not have to be fresh; yesterday’s slightly sour kefir will do. Add soda and salt, mix. Pour in melted butter and cooled to room temperature. Mix again.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Add sifted wheat flour. Add flour in parts, mixing the dough well. You may need a little more or less flour than the amount indicated in the ingredients.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

The dough should be smooth and elastic in consistency, roll it into a ball and put it in a bag, put it in the refrigerator for half an hour.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Meanwhile, prepare the ingredients for the filling. Wash the chicken breast and boil until tender in salted water. Cool the meat slightly and finely chop it with a knife.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Wash the potatoes and boil them in their skins, let them cool a little and peel them. Cut the potatoes into slices. Peel the onions and finely chop them with a knife.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Remove the rested dough from the refrigerator. Divide it into two parts, one slightly larger than the other. Roll out most of the dough on a flour-dusted work surface into a circle the size of the baking dish, but with a small margin (you don’t need to pour a lot of flour), the dough should remain soft. Place the dough into a greased pan, forming small sides.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Place potato slices in the center of the pie.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Place chicken meat on top. Sprinkle everything with chopped onions, salt and pepper to taste. Pour melted butter at room temperature over the filling so that the filling in the pie is juicy.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Cover the filling with the second piece of dough rolled out into a thin layer. We make a small hole in the center to allow steam to escape during baking. Carefully seal the edges of the pie. From the remaining dough you can make figures to decorate the pie. Brush the top of the pie with a beaten chicken egg and place in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 30 minutes.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Take out the rosy and fragrant pie. We serve it to the table with tea or coffee. Bon appetit!
