Yeast roll with poppy seeds
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to bake a poppy seed roll? Measure out the ingredients for the dough. If you don’t want to make a too big roll, make a small one, using half of all the ingredients - as I did. That is, you can cook not for 8, but for 4 servings - because the baked goods turn out to be quite high in calories. Use fast-acting yeast that mixes directly with flour. Read about yeast in the article below the steps. Wash the eggs directly in the shell and dry with napkins.
STEP 2
Melt the butter in any way that suits you and cool. The easiest way to do this is in the microwave.
STEP 3
Beat the eggs into a bowl and beat until smooth with a whisk or mixer. Separately, sift the wheat flour through a fine sieve.
STEP 4
Add dry yeast, sugar and salt to the sifted flour and mix.
STEP 5
Pour warm water into the flour mixture, add beaten eggs and melted butter. Stir. Please note that you may need more or less flour than indicated in the composition. Therefore, it is better to look at the consistency of the dough and do not add all the flour at once, add it gradually, in parts. Read about the properties of flour in the article at the end of this recipe.
STEP 6
Knead into a soft, homogeneous dough. Roll the dough into a ball and, covering it with a towel, leave it in a warm place for 1 hour. If the room is cool, you can slightly heat the oven (approx. 30°C) and put the dough in it. This way it is guaranteed to rise.
STEP 7
Prepare the ingredients for the filling. To prepare the filling we will need: 250 g poppy seeds
STEP 8
Pour boiling water over the poppy seeds and leave to swell for 30 minutes.
STEP 9
Then drain the water and dry the poppy seeds. If you don’t like the crunch of a whole poppy seed, after drying, you can grind the filling in a coffee grinder or pound it in a mortar.
STEP 10
Combine poppy seeds, honey and sugar in a bowl.
STEP 11
Mix the filling well.
STEP 12
Punch down the dough and roll it out into an even rectangle on a floured surface.
STEP 13
Spread the poppy seed filling evenly over the dough, leaving 1-1.5 cm from the edges.
STEP 14
Tuck the side edges so that the filling does not leak out and roll the dough into a tight roll.
STEP 15
Transfer the roll to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
STEP 16
Prepare the mixture for greasing the roll. To do this, crack one egg into a bowl and beat it with a fork until smooth.
STEP 17
Brush the raw roll with beaten egg. Bake the roll in an oven preheated to 180°C for about 30 minutes. Determine the exact baking time and temperature based on your oven. You will learn about the operation of ovens by reading an article on this topic. Link at the end of this recipe.
STEP 18
Cool the finished roll slightly and cut into pieces. Bon appetit!
