Puff pastry roll with poppy seeds
Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make a poppy seed roll from puff pastry? Prepare your food. You can not only take ready-made dough, but also make it yourself. Pre-defrost the finished dough by transferring it from the freezer to the bottom shelf of the refrigerator - this way defrosting will occur most delicately, which is especially important when working with yeast dough. You will learn how to make homemade puff pastry by following the link at the end of the recipe.
STEP 2
Start cooking with the filling. To do this, pour the poppy seeds into a saucepan and pour boiling water over them. Take twice as much water as poppy seeds. Next, you can leave the poppy seed to swell for 30 minutes or, to speed up the process, simmer it over low heat for 15 minutes.
STEP 3
I decided to boil the poppy seeds. After 15 minutes, drain if there is any water left. All the water was absorbed into my poppy. Cool it a little.
STEP 4
Next, grind the poppy seed in a mortar (or use a blender).
STEP 5
Finely chop the walnuts with a knife. To make them more flavorful, you can pre-fry the nuts in a dry frying pan.
STEP 6
Add nuts and honey to the mashed poppy seeds. It will also be very tasty to add steamed raisins.
STEP 7
Place the dough on a floured work surface. Roll it into a rectangular layer 3-5 mm thick. Usually, ready-made puff pastry rolls out better in one direction, you will immediately understand this when you start working with it. Roll out in this direction to get a rectangle.
STEP 8
Place the filling on the resulting layer and spread it evenly with a spoon.
STEP 9
Roll the dough into a roll and pinch the edge.
STEP 10
Line a baking tray with baking paper. Place a bagel-shaped roll on it. Connect the ends.
STEP 11
Using a sharp knife, make shallow cuts around the outer circle.
STEP 12
Beat the egg with a fork. Brush the top of the roll with a pastry brush.
STEP 13
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Bake the roll for 20-30 minutes until golden brown. The exact time will depend on the features of your oven and the thickness of the roll. Read more about how different ovens work in the article at the end of this recipe. Remove the finished roll from the oven and cool.
STEP 14
Serve the roll to the table. Bon appetit!
