For the holiday table, from simple products! Stuffed onions baked in the oven not only look very beautiful, they are also incredibly tasty. You can make absolutely any filling for it. For me it’s ham and cheese, but the following are also suitable: chicken fillet, mushrooms, vegetables, rice, and so on. And you can combine them with each other ad infinitum.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to bake stuffed onions in the oven? First of all, prepare all the necessary products. To brighten the finished dish, I used two types of onions - regular onions and red lettuce. Use onions that are approximately the same size so that they cook evenly and at the same time later.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Peel the onions, leave the tails on both sides, this will allow the onions not to fall apart during the boiling process.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Pour water into a ladle or small saucepan, lightly salt it, place it on the stove over high heat, after boiling, place the onions in boiling water, reduce the heat to medium and cook for about 20 minutes. Next, drain the boiling water and place the boiled onions in cold water for a few seconds.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Prepare the filling. Cut the ham into small cubes; I used a ready-made chopped product. Beat in the egg and mix.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Add a little more than half of the grated cheese, breadcrumbs and garlic to the ham.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Next, add a mixture of ground peppers, a pinch of nutmeg and parsley to the filling. Instead of parsley, I used a mixture of frozen Provençal herbs. Mix everything thoroughly.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Cut each onion in half, as in the photo.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Carefully remove the centers using a teaspoon, leaving only 2-3 outer rings. The cores can be used in the future, for example, for making soup.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Fill each onion with the filling, place in a baking dish and pour a little vegetable or olive oil on top. Place the onions in the preheated oven.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Bake at a temperature of 180-200 degrees for about 30-40 minutes (focus on the capabilities of your oven and that the onions acquire a slightly golden hue). Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and place in the oven for another 10-15 minutes.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Juicy, rosy, aromatic stuffed onions are ready!

I really liked the photo, so appetizing and bright. I stuffed a lot of things, but not onions. I was intrigued by the uniqueness of the recipe. To be honest, I spent a week debating whether to cook it or not. I've decided! I'll make stuffed onions baked in the oven. I chose onions of the same size (I don’t have purple ones, unfortunately) and prepared 4 of them for testing. I boiled the onion, but did not cut it in half, but cut off the tops, since my onions are small. I took out the centers, leaving two outer rings, as the author describes. For the filling I used boiled sausage instead of ham and replaced the parsley with dill. Mixed the filling, adding egg, salt and ground nutmeg. I stuffed the onions, sprinkled them with grated cheese and put them in the oven for 40 minutes at 180 C. The result was a very aromatic and original dish in the form of a hot appetizer. The onion tasted not bitter, even sweetish. Anyone who likes to eat fried or baked onions will definitely like this recipe. The stuffed onions came out very tasty, the filling was rich and aromatic, the onions tasted like baked onions. A very original snack! Thank you!

Indeed, an original dish, stuffed onions, something unusual and very exotic, I don’t even know what it tastes like, but it’s better to cook and try than to guess and think about it. I really liked the filling, and the onions themselves look like pillows, the sauce is delicious, so I will hasten to prepare and understand this surprise!
