STEP 1

Form the minced meat into medium-sized meatballs and roll them on all sides in flour.

Now prepare the gravy. You can replace the tomato paste with tomato sauce, ketchup or fresh crushed tomatoes. You can replace the water with broth. You can use any spices to suit your taste.

Grate the carrots on a coarse grater.

Cut the other half of the onion into small cubes.

Finely chop the garlic.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over low heat. Add onions and carrots and fry until soft. Add chopped garlic and fry until fragrant.

Add tomato paste. Simmer the gravy for 3-5 minutes.

Pour in hot water, bring to a boil and simmer the gravy for another 2-3 minutes. Finally, add spices and sugar. The exact time depends on the degree of heat, your cookware and personal preference.

Pour the gravy into the pan with the meatballs. If necessary, add a little more hot water to completely cover the meatballs. Simmer the meatballs over low heat under the lid for another 15-20 minutes.
