On moonshine

Moonshine is a strong alcoholic product with a high alcohol content (often above 40 degrees). It is prepared mainly by passing mash through a special unit. And that, in turn, is made from a variety of products, from potato peelings to sour apples. For strength, sugar is almost always added to the mash.

Moonshine has a pronounced, specific smell, by which it is easy to recognize. An expert, having tasted the drink, can determine what it was made from. But precisely because of this smell, it is rarely added to dishes when cooking. For example, they prefer to pour vodka or pure alcohol (which has no smell at all) into the dough for chebureks.

If the moonshine aroma does not cause rejection, it can be safely used in home cooking. Because it has all the properties of alcohol. So if the recipe says “add alcohol,” you can replace it with moonshine.

By the way, to make this drink soft, it is often infused with something more aromatic. As a result, wonderful moonshine tinctures are obtained.

For example, on honey, lemon, orange, in general on any fruit with a pleasant smell. You can even use dried fruits.
