Stars New Year's puff pastries with fish and onions

You will be shocked! Guests will sweep away this appetizer in one fell swoop! I set myself the task of coming up with a New Year's menu without compromising the Orthodox Nativity Fast. In my opinion, it turned out to be a very tasty and festive recipe that does not break any rules. It’s especially good when served hot, but it’s also good when served cold. Finally, you can warm it up slightly before serving.

Ingredients

ServingsServings: 3

Step-by-step preparation

Cooking timeCooking time: 1 hr 25 mins
  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

Before you start cooking, be sure to remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it rest at room temperature so that it becomes flexible rather than brittle.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Peel and finely chop the onion

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry the onion in it until golden (or brownish if you like it sweeter)

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Mash the fish and onions with a fork into a homogeneous mass suitable for forming the filling.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Conditionally divide the dough into 2 parts

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Use a large cookie cutter to mark out the places for future pies, do not cut through the outlines, now you are figuring out how many servings of filling you need.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Form balls of filling according to the number of stars and place them in the middle of the outlined contours. Moisten the unused half of the dough with water.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Cover the filling side with the loose side, press them down until the dough sticks together, and cut out stars from the two layers with a portion of the filling inside.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Remove dough scraps. Pinch the stars along the outline with your fingers. I tried to press the outline with a mold, as is done with thicker homemade unleavened puff pastry - the store-bought one is too thin, it breaks, as can be seen in the photo of the finished products.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Bake the pies in the oven according to the instructions for the dough, but... 5 minutes less min. rec. time.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

    And that's what happened!

Yes, beautiful Stranger, you offered a good recipe, and it’s easy to prepare and not only during Lent. I can imagine how this star melts in your mouth

I really, really liked your stars, it is with fish that the puff pastry will look most advantageous in the stars - they, like starfish, will fit perfectly on a dish for the holiday table! I’ll probably make a dozen or two for the New Year, they’ll look amazing on a beautiful platter with herbs! And thank you very much to the author for the suggestion!

What beautiful pies! I have just such a mold, I think you can use whatever you have on hand as a filling :) you will need to buy the dough and cook it! Thanks for the idea!!

Wow! How did the star dumplings hold their shape after cooking? Otherwise! But there are a couple of little secrets. First. In normal dumpling dough, add more eggs than usual. And second.... But later, I’ll post the recipe and describe and show everything. How will I photograph the stages?
