STEP 1
How to bake meatballs in the oven with gravy? First of all, prepare the minced meat. I make minced meat from 70% lean beef and 30% pork. This way the meatballs are not dry, but not too greasy. In general, minced meat from any meat is suitable, be it chicken, turkey, pork, lamb.
STEP 2
Cut off the crusts from the bread, pour milk over the crumb and leave to swell. Take white, wheat or loaf bread. It is better if it is already a little stale bread - it will better absorb the juices from the meat, due to which the meatballs will be juicier.
STEP 3
Wash the parsley, dry and finely chop. Instead of parsley, you can add dill and any other herbs to your taste.
STEP 4
Combine minced meat, bread, parsley, egg, salt and pepper in a bowl. If the bread is very wet, squeeze out any excess liquid.
STEP 5
Stir the minced meat until smooth.
STEP 6
With wet hands, form the minced meat into small meatballs.
STEP 7
Fry the meatballs in a frying pan with vegetable oil over medium heat for about 5 minutes until golden brown. I fried it in a dry frying pan because the minced meat was quite fatty.
STEP 8
Transfer the meatballs to a baking dish.
STEP 9
Prepare the gravy. Tomato paste in this recipe can be replaced with tomatoes in their own juice, fresh tomatoes or ketchup.
STEP 10
Peel the onion, chop coarsely and fry until golden brown in the pan where the meatballs were fried. If necessary, add a little olive oil.
STEP 11
Dilute tomato paste in water.
STEP 12
Pour the tomato paste into the pan. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes over low heat.
STEP 13
Pour sauce over meatballs.
STEP 14
Place the pan in an oven preheated to 200°C for 35-40 minutes. The times are approximate, use your technique as a guide. Read more about ovens in the article at the end of the recipe. The meatballs should be browned on top. Serve them hot, with any side dish, topped with gravy. Bon appetit!
