  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make herring under a fur coat with processed cheese? First, prepare the necessary ingredients. You can use beets not only boiled, but also baked in the oven. Stores sell ready-boiled beets in vacuum packaging. Using store-bought beets will save you cooking time.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Check the herring fillet for the presence of small bones and cut into small cubes. For the salad, you can use a whole salted herring, which will need to be pre-cut, or ready-made portioned fillets in oil. It is more convenient to use ready-made fillets. This will save time.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Boil the beets in their skins. Then cool and peel. Grate the beets on a coarse grater.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Boil carrots in their skins. Then cool and peel. Grate the carrots on a coarse grater.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Boil the potatoes in their skins. Then cool and peel. Grate the potatoes on a coarse grater.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Grate the processed cheese on a fine grater. Soft cheese grates poorly and is very sticky, so first put it in the freezer for 20-30 minutes.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Hard boil the eggs, cool and peel. Grate on a coarse grater.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Place a cooking ring (Ø 16 cm) on a plate. Place the first layer of chopped herring and compact it. There is no need to lubricate the herring with anything; this layer is already quite juicy and fatty.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Next, add the potatoes and smooth them out as well. Pour mayonnaise on top. I put the mayonnaise into a piping bag and cut off the tip. It's more convenient than using a spoon.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Place the next layer of grated processed cheese and also pour over mayonnaise.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

The next layer is grated eggs and mayonnaise.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

    Then grated carrots and mayonnaise.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

Place beets on top of carrots and pour mayonnaise over them. Spread the mayonnaise with a spoon so that the layer turns a beautiful pink-violet color. Place the salad in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours to soak.

  14. STEP 14

    STEP 14

Remove the cooking ring before serving. Garnish the salad with a rose of chopped beets and fresh herbs. Bon appetit!

What would New Year be without a “fur coat”?). I made herring under a fur coat with melted cheese for the holiday table. I took more products, because the company was large. I calculated for 500 g of fish, it was in oil and cut into pieces. Removed excess oil using paper napkins. This layer is really juicy; mayonnaise would be superfluous here. But the potatoes on top of the herring are just perfect, and at the same time they absorb the oil. I added a little red onion to the herring. The layers were repeated twice due to the larger amount of products. I collected it in a ring with a diameter of 16 cm, it turned out just to the very top. Each layer was lightly compacted. I pre-squeezed the carrots and beets from the juice so that the salad would not drip. Processed cheese goes very well with the other ingredients of the “fur coat”. I took “Yantar”, it grates perfectly on a medium grater, even without freezing. The lettuce was in the ring all night and another half day. Before serving, I removed it. The layers set perfectly, were saturated and kept their shape. Most of all, my mother-in-law was happy with my “cake”). Although even the children praised him, which is doubly pleasant. Indeed, the salad is very tasty, juicy, filling and beautiful. We had a fish table and herring under a fur coat was in perfect harmony with other dishes. This salad is easy to assemble and even a young housewife can handle it. So feel free to cook! Thank you very much to the author for the recipe!
