  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to prepare tomatoes in jelly with gelatin for the winter with onions? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Wash jars and metal lids thoroughly with baking soda. You can sterilize jars in the microwave or over steam. I sterilize in the oven. To do this, place dry containers in a cold oven. Warm them up for 20 minutes at 120°C. Cover the lids with water in a saucepan and boil for 5-10 minutes. Drain and leave to cool.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

First you need to soak the gelatin. Pour it with one glass of boiled cold water and leave it to swell for 30-40 minutes while you do the rest of the work.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Which tomatoes are best? Take ripe, firm tomatoes (the “Cream” variety is ideal). Choose small fruits. It will be more convenient to place them in a jar and they will be better saturated with brine. Wash the tomatoes, cut off the stems, cut into slices about 1 cm thick. Or simply cut in half.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Wash medium sized onions. Peel it from the husk. Cut into thin rings. To prevent onion juice from irritating your eyes, rinse the knife and onion with cold water.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Peel, rinse and cut two cloves of garlic into thin slices.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

For the marinade, boil 2 cups of filtered quality water in a saucepan. Add sugar and salt. Stir until the salt and sugar crystals are completely dissolved.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

In a dry, sterilized jar, place the spices: black peppercorns, bay leaf, dill, and garlic at the bottom. Then place the tomato and onion rings alternately. If you cut the tomatoes in half, place them cut side down.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

When the marinade boils, turn off the heat, pour the swollen gelatin into the marinade and stir until it dissolves.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Pour 9% table vinegar into the marinade, stir and pour the hot marinade over the tomatoes up to the shoulders of the jar.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Take a deep and wide pan. Line the bottom with a kitchen towel. Put the cans there. Cover them with boiled lids. The liquid should reach the “shoulders” of the containers. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and sterilize for approximately 15 minutes. Carefully remove the jars from the pan and seal the lids with a key.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Place the jars upside down, cover with a blanket and leave to cool for about a day. The workpiece should be stored in a cool place, for example, a cellar. Before using, cool the jar in the refrigerator to allow the jelly to set. Bon appetit!

I made a couple of jars of tomatoes in jelly with gelatin for the winter with sterilized onions. I took small tomatoes and cut them in half. I didn’t deviate from the recipe, I just increased the amount of ingredients using the site’s calculator based on two liter jars. There was enough brine, even with a reserve (this depends on the size of the tomatoes and the density of their packing in the jars). We will taste it in the winter, I have no doubt that it will be delicious, since I have been making similar preparations for several years - the result is always pleasing. Thanks to the author for the recipe!

Gorgeous tomatoes, I made these last year, I really liked them!!! I also like this versatile tomato preparation! Canned tomatoes in tomato juice can be not only a tasty snack (whole tomatoes), but also a base for making sauces, ketchup, tomato paste or a hot sauce.

Thank you, Anna . But this is the first time I’ve made it, so I’ll try it later and post a photo with the “insides” from the jar.

I opened a jar of tomatoes in jelly, they turned out delicious and you can eat the jelly brine. I also really liked the onion, it remains strong and crispy, next time I need to add more of it - through each layer of tomatoes.
