Shortcake with dates and nuts

These delicate squares will perfectly complement your sweet table! The pie turns out tender and crispy, and since the filling turns out to be quite sweet, the amount of sugar in the dough and crumbs can be reduced.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

    Let's do the test.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

In the bowl of a food processor, combine flour, powdered sugar, a pinch of salt and chopped butter. Grind everything until crumbly.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Add cold milk (you may need a little more or less, add 1 tablespoon at a time) and mix until it becomes a moist crumb.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

We collect the crumbs into a ball and put them in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

For the filling, combine dates (pitted) and nuts in a food processor. Grind into a homogeneous mixture. If you don’t have a food processor, then use a knife to cut everything into small pieces.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

I had fewer dates and added a handful of cranberries and a handful of light raisins.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

    Let's prepare crumbs for sprinkling.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Mix flour, powdered sugar, flakes (I crushed them first, but this is not necessary) and butter.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

    Grind into crumbs.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Roll out the dough and place it in the mold. Prick with a fork, cover the top of the dough with a sheet of paper and add a load (beans or peas). Bake at 180 C for about 15 minutes.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Remove the weighted paper and bake the crust for another 10-15 minutes until done.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

Apply the filling to the finished crust (it’s easier to do this with wet hands).

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

    Sprinkle crumbs on top.

  14. STEP 14

    STEP 14

And bake at 180 C for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let the pie cool completely, cut into squares and serve. Bon appetit!

Wonderful pie))) I saw it and immediately decided to treat myself to it)) I love dates very much, but my family doesn’t really crave them.. And they ate them with pleasure in this pie))) It turned out to be very tender, moderately sweet. The combination of dates and nuts is simply magical! True, I decided to sprinkle the pie not with oatmeal, since I didn’t have any, but with powdered sugar and orange zest)) It turned out very interesting. Thanks for the recipe!
