Sheep Cake

A cute sheep will look good on the New Year's table. Hi all. I think that many already know that 2015 is the year of the Sheep or Goat. Therefore, I propose to prepare you a cute cake in the shape of a sheep, or rather in the shape of a face. To be honest, at first I planned to make a cake with a full-fledged sheep and even thought about decorating it with mastic, but then I thought about how much time it would take not only to prepare the components, but also to decorate, and also to buy products (for example, dyes, recesses for cutting out mastic), rejected this idea. Undoubtedly, a lamb decorated with mastic would have turned out much prettier, but I decided to offer you an easier cooking option, because the New Year holidays are about fun, a good mood, meeting with loved ones, and not just cooking all day long. Therefore, I really hope that you will like a cute cake that can be decorated in just 30 minutes, or even less. The cake consists of a regular sponge cake, which you can make yourself or buy in a store. For the inside, I prepared custard with the addition of coconut flakes - it turned out very fragrant. You can use buttercream, sour cream, or just take a little more whipped cream. I soaked the biscuit with syrup based on tangerine juice. It adds a very slight sourness and what better way to use tangerines in the New Year :) In order to decorate the cake, you only need a pastry bag or syringe, a star-shaped nozzle, two thick bags, desire and a good mood.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

    Ingredients for cream.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

In a saucepan, grind the yolks with sugar.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

    Add flour and mix.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Pour in milk, stirring constantly. Place the pan on the fire and, stirring constantly, bring the mixture to a boil.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

As soon as the first bubbles appear on the surface of the cream, add coconut flakes and mix thoroughly. We send the pan back to the heat and bring it to a boil again (but do not boil).

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Remove the finished cream from the heat, add the butter and stir until it is completely dissolved. Leave to cool.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

I prepared the biscuit in advance. You can take a ready-made sponge cake and prepare it according to the proportions that I indicated. I got a sponge cake with a small cap, I cut it off and from this part I cut out the ears for the sheep.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Cut the finished biscuit into 2-3 parts.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

For impregnation, I used tangerine juice. But you can use regular sugar syrup. Squeeze the juice out of 2 tangerines.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Pour the juice into the pan, add powdered sugar (to taste) and a few tablespoons of plain water (optional). Place on the fire and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Assembling the cake. Take part of the biscuit and soak it in syrup.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

Spread half the coconut cream. Cover with the second part of the sponge cake, soak it and grease with the rest of the cream.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

Cover with the last part of the biscuit.

  14. STEP 14

    STEP 14

    For decoration.

  15. STEP 15

    STEP 15

Add a drop of pink coloring to the heavy cream.

  16. STEP 16

    STEP 16

Whip the cream with powdered sugar until thick.

  17. STEP 17

    STEP 17

Cover the surface of the cake with a thin layer of butter cream.

  18. STEP 18

    STEP 18

We decorate the sides with curls and pipe them using a pastry bag with a star tip.

  19. STEP 19

    STEP 19

We also make a bang on top in the form of curls. And attach the ears. I cut them out of a biscuit cap that I was leveling. If your sponge cake turned out even (this is very good) and there are no pieces, you can make ears from ready-made sponge cookies or when you bake the sponge cake, put a couple of spoons of dough into muffin tins, and you can also cut out ears from marshmallows (it’s better to take pink) . I attached the ears to toothpicks and coated them with cream on top.

  20. STEP 20

    STEP 20

In order to make a nose and tint the middle of the ears, 1 tbsp. l. Tint the cream a more intense pink color.

  21. STEP 21

    STEP 21

We make a nose with rich pink cream (put the cream in a tight bag and cut off a corner, this will make it easier to deposit the cream) and tint the middle of the ears. We draw the eyes and mouth with melted chocolate (for convenience, we also use a thick bag). The cake is ready. Let it soak for several hours and serve.

Oh, what a miracle!!! I really love all kinds of edible things like this. And here it’s just themed for the New Year. The sheep turned out wonderful: pink fluffy with a cheerful smile. This will be very pleasant to eat. Great idea for a holiday table. Thanks for the recipe!!!
