Plum and apple jam
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make jam from plums and apples for the winter? Prepare all the necessary products. Take any apples: the sweeter the variety, the sweeter the jam and vice versa. Plum is preferable to the Hungarian variety, not very large with a well-separable stone. I use regular white sugar, but you can also take brown - it will give a caramel shade - or coconut - it will give a light coconut aroma.
STEP 2
Wash the apples, remove the seed capsule and cut into thin slices. In principle, cutting into cubes is also suitable for jam, so cut in any way convenient for you.
STEP 3
Wash the plums and remove the pits. If you have a small plum, you can leave it in halves. My plum is large, so I cut it the same way as apples: into slices of exactly the same size.
STEP 4
Place the chopped apples and plums in a bowl for making jam. It is advisable that it be a pan with a thick bottom. The article on saucepans, link at the end of the recipe, will help you choose the ideal soup pot.
STEP 5
Cover the fruit with sugar and leave to brew for 2 to 12 hours. There is no need to add water, there will be enough juice as is.
STEP 6
When the fruits release their juice, it’s time to add some spices. I make classic jam without additives. But various additives would also be very appropriate here. For example, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger pair beautifully with apple and plum. Or maybe a spoonful of cocoa powder? It will give the finished jam a chocolate taste. Choose!
STEP 7
Bring the fruit and sugar to a boil over low heat.
STEP 8
Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 40-45 minutes. The exact time depends on the pan you choose and the operating characteristics of your stove. Do not forget to skim off any foam that appears on the surface.
STEP 9
Since we are preparing jam for the winter, the jars must be sterilized. I put a spoon in the jar and pour a little boiling water, then after 10 minutes I drain the boiling water. But you can also sterilize jars in the microwave and oven. Just boil the lids. Read more about sterilization, as well as other nuances of preservation, in the articles linked at the end of the recipe.
STEP 10
Place the jam into prepared jars.
STEP 11
Close the jars with lids. You can store this jam in normal apartment conditions. No refrigerator required.
STEP 12
Apple and plum jam is perfect for tea drinking or baking. Bon appetit!
