  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

Prepare ingredients for the pie. You can take the currants directly frozen, the recipe is designed just for this. But remove the butter from the refrigerator in advance, it should soften. Instead of sugar, you can put powdered sugar in the crust. You can take potato starch, you need half as much of it.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

    Sift the flour.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Add baking powder and sugar. Stir.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Divide the eggs into whites and yolks.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Add softened butter and yolks to the flour mixture. Using a fork, mix the flour with butter and yolks until crumbly. You can do this with a knife, making chopping movements.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Then knead the dough with your hands. It will quickly gather into a ball.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Lightly grease the baking dish with oil. Spread the dough over the bottom and sides. This is very easy to do, the dough is very soft and elastic. Cut pieces of equal thickness from the dough and cover the bottom with them, pressing lightly with your fingers. Form the sides in the same way. Place the pan with the dough in the freezer for 20 minutes.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden brown. Remove the crust from the oven. Don't turn off the oven.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Using a whisk, beat the egg whites until white.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Add sugar and starch, stir well. Whisk again.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Add berries to protein mixture. Stir.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

Place the filling onto the slightly cooled crust and spread it evenly using a spatula.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

Bake the pie for another 10-15 minutes. The filling should harden.

I wanted to bake a jellied pie with frozen berries and then I discovered that there was not enough sour cream for filling. Fortunately, I saw on the website a recipe for a pie with frozen currants made from shortcrust pastry, which does not require sour cream. Preparing the pie is not difficult! Having made the dough, I put it in a large frying pan, formed a cake with sides and put it in the refrigerator for 20 minutes (my shape did not fit in the freezer). Then I put the cake in the oven for 15 minutes at 220°. For the filling I used frozen gooseberries. Following the author’s advice, I did not defrost the berries; I added them to the rest of the ingredients, mixed the filling and placed them on the baked crust. I baked the cake for another 15 minutes. The pie dough turned out crumbly, crispy, melting in your mouth. The berries came out looking fresh! The combination of berry sourness and sweet dough is wonderful! She made herself some coffee, cut off a piece of pie, ate it and, unable to resist, started on the second one. Very tasty! Thank you very much for the recipe!

Great dessert! I prepared it strictly according to the recipe. The pie turned out very tasty. Here and there some berries leaked juice, but that’s more my fault than the author’s. I liked that the berries would be on the surface of the pie, it looked beautiful, but during baking they gave out the juice. But overall this did not spoil the picture. I liked the recipe. I recommend!

The recipe is great. But you need less sugar, according to my taste. The frozen berry is a little sour, but some people like it. Next time I'll put in fresh ones. Plus I wanted some crust. I beat the starch mixture longer and it turned out something like meringue. Thank you very much to the Author❤️❤️❤️

An interesting recipe, Pie with frozen currants from shortcrust pastry, made with frozen honeysuckle. The dough really needs to be put into pieces into the mold and distributed with your hands. I added vanillin))) it turned out to be meringue with berries)))
