STEP 1

Let's prepare the ingredients for the dish according to the list. Wash the chicken fillet thoroughly under running water, dry it with paper towels and cut into small cubes or strips, as you prefer.
STEP 2

Peel the onions and cut into small cubes.
STEP 3

Grease the baking dish with butter or vegetable oil. Place the chicken fillet evenly throughout the pan. Salt and pepper the chicken in the pan to taste. For a special aroma and improved taste, you can sprinkle onions cut into small cubes on top.
STEP 4

Prepare bechamel sauce. Place the butter cut into pieces in a saucepan or deep frying pan. Turn on the fire. Melt the butter completely over medium heat, not allowing it to burn to the bottom, stirring constantly with a spatula.
STEP 5

Then add the wheat flour in parts, mixing it well with the butter each time so that the flour does not form lumps. Let the wheat flour brown a little and acquire a golden color. Pour the milk in a thin stream into the saucepan, while stirring the mixture with your other hand.
STEP 6

Boil the sauce over low heat until it thickens a little; you don’t need to let the sauce boil, otherwise it will evaporate too much. Remove the sauce from the heat and let it cool slightly.
STEP 7

Pour bechamel sauce over the chicken fillet in the form so that it almost completely covers the meat.
STEP 8

Grate the hard cheese on a medium grater and sprinkle it on top of the chicken fillet in a baking dish. Cover the baking dish with chicken on top with foil. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Bake the chicken fillet under foil for about 20 minutes. Then remove the foil and place the pan with the chicken in the oven for another 10 minutes so that the hard cheese on top melts and the dish acquires a beautiful golden brown crust.

Chicken with béchamel sauce is ready. Serve it to the table, optionally with fresh vegetables and herbs, a side dish or fresh bread. Bon appetit!
