    Prepare flour.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Add baking powder or baking powder to the flour.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

    Add salt.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Mix and sift through a sieve.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Pour into a bowl for kneading dough.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

    Add sugar.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

    Pour in vegetable oil.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

    Add eggs.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

    Pour in milk.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

Beat by hand or with a mixer.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

The dough must be liquid and homogeneous.

  14. STEP 14

    STEP 14

    Divide equally between 2 dishes.

  15. STEP 15

    STEP 15

Add vanilla extract to the same bowl with the dough. Mix. The dough for 2 vanilla pies is ready.

  16. STEP 16

    STEP 16

    Chocolate cakes require cocoa powder.

  17. STEP 17

    STEP 17

    Sift it through a sieve.

  18. STEP 18

    STEP 18

  20. STEP 20

    STEP 20

  21. STEP 21

    STEP 21

    And bake until done.

  22. STEP 22

    STEP 22

Preferably separately so as not to mix the flavors. But it’s possible to do it all together!

  23. STEP 23

    STEP 23

Set the finished cake layers aside to cool.

  24. STEP 24

    STEP 24

In the meantime, you can prepare a template for cutting out the cake parts from the pies. To do this, draw a circle on a piece of paper with a pencil around the baking dish.

  25. STEP 25

    STEP 25

Use a ruler to mark the middle of the circle and divide the radius into 3 even parts using the same marks. Using a compass, draw smaller circles of marked radii from the middle of the large circle.

  26. STEP 26

    STEP 26

Fold the paper in half in the middle of the circles.

  27. STEP 27

    STEP 27

And cut out the shape as in the photo.

  28. STEP 28

    STEP 28

Prepare cooled pies for cutting into parts - cut off unnecessary tops.

  29. STEP 29

    STEP 29

Do the following for all pies.

  30. STEP 30

    STEP 30

Place the template in the middle.

  31. STEP 31

    STEP 31

    Secure with toothpicks, for example.

  32. STEP 32

    STEP 32

Cut the cake into a circle from the inside

  33. STEP 33

    STEP 33

    and outside the template.

  34. STEP 34

    STEP 34

    These are the details

  35. STEP 35

    STEP 35

    for assembling a chess cake.

  36. STEP 36

    STEP 36

And one more important detail is to prepare the chocolate butter (glaze) by mixing thoroughly.

  37. STEP 37

    STEP 37

Now you can start assembling, for example, with a large chocolate circle.

  38. STEP 38

    STEP 38

    Coat the inside with oil.

  39. STEP 39

    STEP 39

Insert a medium vanilla circle into the large chocolate circle.

  40. STEP 40

    STEP 40

Coat the inside of the vanilla circle with oil.

  41. STEP 41

    STEP 41

And insert a chocolate disc into it.

  42. STEP 42

    STEP 42

The same for all other parts.

  43. STEP 43

    STEP 43

Like this. The stage of horizontal assembly of parts is completed.

  44. STEP 44

    STEP 44

For vertical assembly - with the same chocolate butter

  45. STEP 45

    STEP 45

    coat the striped disc evenly.

  46. STEP 46

    STEP 46

Install the second disk on top.

  47. STEP 47

    STEP 47

And repeat the same with the remaining disks - coat with oil and place them on top of each other.

  48. STEP 48

    STEP 48

Now coat the resulting cake on all sides with the same butter!

  49. STEP 49

    STEP 49

And place the resulting cylinder in the refrigerator to cool for 2 hours.

  50. STEP 50

    STEP 50

Before serving, decorate the cake with something! Be it chocolate chips, powdered sugar or candied fruits, for example. Enjoy your tea party with the whole company!

Although the chess cake was not easy for me, it is now one of my favorites - so unusual and beautiful! But most importantly, this cake is very relevant for my husband and our children, who study at a chess school. First I tried to make the cakes according to the recipe. The dough turned out good, thick, but I didn’t pay attention to the fact that the cakes need to be baked separately in different forms (like any dough with a lot of vegetable oil), so they didn’t work out for me - the vanilla one wasn’t baked well inside, the chocolate one didn’t rise well. Hence the immediate advice - you need to pour the dough into two identical forms at once, you should get four forms in total - two with vanilla dough and two with chocolate. On my second attempt, I saved food and baked biscuits using the classic recipe. As for the cream, our family doesn’t eat store-bought chocolate butter, so I found a wonderful recipe for custard with chocolate for a cake on the website, I used it, it’s a very suitable cream for this cake, I recommend it! Well, the most interesting thing about the chess cake recipe is its assembly, a very exciting activity for those who like to tinker. The most important thing here is a good eye or ruler; you need to cut out the rings so that the width of the strip matches the height of the cake. This will make the cake look neater when cut. For decoration, I used powdered shortbread cookies and added a little cocoa powder to get a dark color. I made the chess pieces from store-bought chocolate bars, melted it in a water bath and poured it into molds. The cake came out wonderful - very tasty and beautiful in cut! By the way, I didn’t soak it in anything; the biscuit rings, greased on all sides, were sufficiently saturated with cream in the refrigerator overnight. Thanks for the interesting recipe!

Inna, you are great! This cake is a bit of a hassle, but the results are worth it. Sometimes in the store I see a chess pie like this, it’s coated with jam. Your cake definitely tastes better with this cream. Thanks for the recipe.
