Viennese waffles
Traditional, classic Viennese waffles - with a soft and tender texture that melts in your mouth. They were invented in the nineteenth century by one of the confectioners, who lived in Vienna at that time. His name was Joseph Manner. And then they were called differently: Neapolitan. Why is that? It's simple. Manner used hazelnuts as a filling for his baked goods. And in Europe they were traded only in Naples.
Master Joseph changed his creation from the usual. Before that, waffles were prepared only crispy and brittle. He began to make them biscuit-like and fluffy. And the customers liked it so much that the confectioner had to purchase a patent so that his brainchild would not be stolen by someone else. He took over the Manner brand for them, which still exists today.
Much has changed since Herr's time. His waffles began to be prepared with a variety of fillings, not only nuts. And today they are served with any, even the most exotic, sauce, cream, filling, paste, glaze, jam, marmalade. Not only sweet, but also meat, cheese, mushroom.
It is impossible to say with certainty whether the recipe for Viennese waffles has been preserved from the creator. Or it was replaced with an updated one. Or for home cooking they use something completely different from the one used in Manner. In any case, you can try cooking. To do this, you will need simple and affordable products: flour, butter, milk, sugar, eggs, baking powder and lemon juice. The composition may change in different variations, don’t let that scare you. After all, ordinary users also have the right to slightly adjust, change and supplement it.
