Tomato halves
Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make halved tomatoes in jars for the winter? Prepare all ingredients. It is better to take 0.5 liter jars so that the preparation can be eaten at a time. Wash the jars of baking soda and place them, damp, upside down on a cold oven rack. Bring the temperature to 150°C and sterilize 0.5 liter jars for 10 minutes, 1 liter jars for 15 minutes. Wash the lids and boil. You can also sterilize jars in the microwave or steam. Choose a proven method that is convenient for you.
STEP 2
Wash the tomatoes in running water, let the water drain, cut them into two parts. If the fruits are very large, you can do four. Peel the onions, cut them into rings; if the onions are too large, you can cut them into feathers or halves of rings. Peel the garlic cloves, cut them into two parts.
STEP 3
Greens and spices for preservation: currant, cherry, horseradish leaves, dill umbrellas, parsley leaves, bay leaves, wash and dry thoroughly. If desired, you can use other spices and additives. I like the taste of canned tomatoes, when not only the horseradish leaf is added, but also the root, the marinade turns out to be more aromatic and rich in taste, and the tomatoes themselves are soaked in the marinade.
STEP 4
Place garlic cloves, herbs, bay leaves, and peppercorns on the bottom of sterile jars. You can find out useful tips and life hacks about preparing for the winter by reading the article on this topic. The link to it is at the end of this recipe.
STEP 5
Place cooked tomatoes and onions in jars, alternating them with each other. Place the vegetables tightly, but do not crush the tomatoes so that they do not release juice.
STEP 6
Add sugar and salt on top and pour boiling water over it. It may take a little more or less water, depending on how tightly the vegetables are packed in the jars. Pour vinegar into jars. Cover the jars with lids.
STEP 7
Place the jars of tomatoes in a pan of water to sterilize. Be sure to put a cloth on the bottom of the pan so that the jars do not burst when heated; the jars should also not touch each other; keep them on the fire for 10 minutes from the moment the water boils in the pan. Next, roll up the lids of the jars. Let the workpiece cool upside down, under a blanket. Store in the pantry. Bon appetit!
