Stuffed tomatoes with cheese filling, onion and parsley
Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients. Which tomatoes are best? Choose ripe but firm medium-sized fruits. Soft tomatoes will turn into mush when chopped and baked, so they are not suitable for this dish.
STEP 2
Wash the tomatoes. Cut off the tops. Don't throw them away; you'll need them as lids for stuffed tomatoes. Carefully, so as not to damage the fruit, use a knife and a teaspoon to cut out the pulp, leaving the walls about 1 cm thick. Turn the resulting tomato cups cut side down and leave for 3-5 minutes so that all excess juice flows out.
STEP 3
Cut the ham into strips or cubes. How to choose the right ham? Check the ingredients for soy, starch and flavorings. Natural ham is made from pork. Other types of meat in the composition are undesirable.
STEP 4
Grate 70 grams of hard cheese on a fine grater. The cheese can be anything, the main thing is that it is tasty and melts well. Wash and dry the parsley (or dill) with paper towels. Finely chop the greens with a knife.
STEP 5
In a bowl, combine ham, cheese and herbs. Add salt and spices to taste. Stir. Be sure to taste for salt and add more salt if you think necessary.
STEP 6
Stuff the tomatoes with the finished filling, lightly tamping the mixture of cheese and ham with a spoon.
STEP 7
Line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicone mat. Place stuffed tomatoes. Grate the remaining cheese on a medium grater and sprinkle it on top of the tomatoes.
STEP 8
Cover the tomatoes with the cut tops. In advance (10-15 minutes before cooking), preheat the oven to 190 degrees. Bake the dish for about 20 minutes. When the cheese has melted, remove the baking sheet. Every oven bakes differently, so take your appliance into account. If necessary, change the baking time and temperature.
STEP 9
Transfer the tomato cups to a plate. Garnish with sprigs of parsley, dill or basil. Serve.
STEP 10
Make a sauce from the remaining centers. Beat them in a blender bowl with garlic passed through a press (1-2 cloves). Mix with mayonnaise (about 2 tbsp), salt and pepper (to taste). Mayonnaise can be replaced with sour cream of any fat content or natural yogurt. Place the prepared sauce in a gravy boat and serve as an accompaniment to baked stuffed tomatoes. It will be delicious!
