Spiced herring

Incredibly aromatic and so delicious it makes your mouth water! Spicy-salted herring is much better than store-bought herring. It’s not at all difficult to make, and what a magnificent result awaits you! Despite the fact that it contains only natural ingredients!

How to make spicy salted herring at home? Very simple! Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Rinse the herring in running water, remove the insides, and rinse again. If the fish contains caviar, then save it, as we will also salt it.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Pour clean water into a saucepan or saucepan; tap water can give an unpleasant taste. Add bay leaf, allspice and peppercorns, mustard seeds, coriander, salt and sugar to the saucepan. Bring the water to a boil and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes. Stir the brine until all the grains of salt and sugar dissolve in it. Remove the saucepan from the heat. You can change and add spices as you wish.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Cool the brine completely at room temperature.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Place the herring and caviar (if available) in a container of a suitable size.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Pour the cooled spicy brine over the fish.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Cover the container with a lid and place the herring in the brine in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

After 2 days, the delicious, spicy-salted herring is completely ready to eat. Cut the herring into pieces and serve. This excellent appetizer will decorate any table. Bon appetit!

I’ve had several herrings in the freezer since spring; I usually make balyk from them. But these specimens were not particularly fatty, so it was decided to simply salt them. I chose Maria’s recipe for Spicy Salted Herring. The herrings didn’t fit in the container, so I cut off their heads and tails) For the brine, I only didn’t have coriander, but I think it won’t affect the taste much. I marinated the herring for two days. The amount of salt is normal for me (I took salt without a slide). The herring turned out to be moderately salty, slightly sweet and very aromatic and spicy. They really don’t sell something like this in the store! A very tasty herring, I boiled some potatoes for a side dish and we’ll have dinner) Knowing my husband’s tastes, I’m sure he’ll like it too. Thanks for the recipe, I'll take note!

I salt the herring in the same way, only for two fish I take 0.5 liters of water, reduce the salt and spices too. Herring can be cut into pieces. Ready in one night. You just need to take a smaller box for salting, or turn the fish over to another side. I usually salt 4 herrings per liter of brine.
