Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make potato waffles in a waffle iron? To begin, prepare the necessary ingredients according to the list. You can replace regular flour with any gluten-free flour: corn, oat, rice, etc. But keep in mind that you may need more or less other types of flour.
STEP 2
Peel the potatoes and cut into cubes.
STEP 3
Boil the potatoes in boiling salted water until tender, about 20 minutes. The exact cooking time depends on the type of potato and the size of the pieces.
STEP 4
Drain the water from the finished potatoes. Mash the potatoes into a smooth puree using a potato masher.
STEP 5
Pour milk into a saucepan, add butter and heat over low heat, but do not bring to a boil. The butter should melt completely.
STEP 6
Pour the hot milk and butter into the mashed potatoes and stir. Cool the mixture. Both the milk and the potatoes should be hot. If you pour cold milk into mashed potatoes, the potatoes may darken.
STEP 7
Wash the parsley, dry and finely chop. If you wish, you can replace or supplement with other herbs, for example, dill, cilantro, green onions, or use a mixture of different herbs.
STEP 8
Add eggs to cooled potatoes and mix thoroughly. Eggs will curdle quickly in hot potatoes, so make sure that the mashed potatoes are cooled not only on the outside, but also on the inside.
STEP 9
Pour the flour sifted with a pinch of salt into the dough and mix. The potato dough should be viscous, but slightly fluid. If the dough is too runny, add a little more flour.
STEP 10
Add chopped herbs to the potato dough and stir.
STEP 11
Preheat the electric waffle iron. Add some potato dough and bake for 3-5 minutes until golden brown. If waffles stick to the surface of the waffle iron, you can grease the panels with vegetable oil before baking each waffle. At this stage, you can make mashed potato waffles more tender or, conversely, crispy, more fried.
STEP 12
Place the finished Viennese potato waffles on a plate and serve. Bon appetit!
