It is better to take lightly salted herring; if the fish is salted, then the amount of butter or cheese will need to be increased. The weight of the fish doesn't really matter. First boil the carrots until tender and cool. Place the butter in the freezer to make it easier to grate. Processed cheese can be of any consistency.

    Rinse the herring carcass with cold water and dry. Cut off the head and tail. Cut off the belly and remove the entrails. Carefully remove the backbone and small bones. Using a sharp knife, cut the herring fillets into very small pieces. Place the chopped herring in a deep bowl.

    Remove the butter from the freezer. Grate the oil on a coarse grater and place in a bowl with the chopped fish.

    The herring “spread” can be served immediately after it is prepared. After standing in the refrigerator, it becomes denser, but still spreads well on bread. This herring paste is wonderful in a duet with toasted black bread. For a more harmonious taste, such sandwiches can be sprinkled with chopped fresh herbs or green onions. Bon appetit!

Mm..what a delicious spread on herring bread I prepared thanks to the recipe from the site’s author! I filleted the herring and cut it into small pieces. The carrots were pre-boiled and grated on a fine grater. I used melted butter. In a salad bowl I mixed herring, carrots, butter, and melted cheese. I dried the pieces of bread a little in a frying pan and put the spread on top! It turned out very tasty 👍👍The recipe is simple 💣💣 and I have it in my piggy bank, I will cook it again and again! For sandwiches, I decided to make a spread on bread from herring. It is better to boil the carrots in advance, then preparing the spread will take a little time. Finely chopped herring fillet, grated carrots, processed cheese and butter. I mixed everything, added a little ground black pepper - and the spread is ready! I made sandwiches with it on slices of baguette. A very tasty combination of herring with carrots, cheese and butter! Thanks to the author for the recipe!

Great recipe. Thank you. An excellent substitute for sausage. I also added herring caviar, delicious too! And I minced all the ingredients in a meat grinder.
