Braised Chinese cabbage

Tender, juicy, amazingly tasty, for a side dish! Stewed Chinese cabbage is the easiest dish to prepare from this Chinese vegetable. You can offer it with meat, cutlets, fish, chicken, or on its own as a light snack.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to stew Chinese cabbage? Prepare all products according to the list. For juiciness and brightness of the finished dish, use cherry tomatoes or one large tomato.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Peel the onions, carrots and garlic and rinse. Garlic can be omitted from the recipe if desired. Grate the carrots on a coarse grater, pass the garlic through a press or chop it with a knife, and cut the onion into quarter rings or smaller.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Remove any damaged outer leaves from the Chinese cabbage. Rinse the peking and cut into thin strips.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Heat vegetable oil in a thick-bottomed frying pan. Send the onions, carrots and garlic to fry. Cook, stirring, over high heat until golden brown.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Rinse the cherry tomatoes and cut them in half. You can first peel the tomatoes. Place cabbage, tomatoes and tomato paste in a frying pan. Mix everything thoroughly. I added the cabbage in parts, stirring constantly.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Reduce stove heat to moderate. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer until all ingredients are cooked. After a while, open the lid and check if the cabbage is burning. If there is not enough juice from the tomatoes, then pour in a little water (I added half a glass of boiling water).

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

After 10-15 minutes, open the lid. Salt the dish to taste. At this stage, add your favorite dry spices. I used dried Provençal herbs and vegetable mixture. Stir, increase the flame slightly and leave on the stove for another 3-5 minutes. At the end of cooking, add chopped herbs. Dill, parsley or green young onions are perfect.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Before serving, sprinkle the finished cabbage with ground allspice or black pepper.

I used Chinese cabbage only fresh, but then I saw a recipe for stewed Chinese cabbage and decided to try it. Instead of tomato paste, I used homemade tomato and did not add cherry tomatoes. This dish is made very quickly, which I certainly liked. The finished cabbage turned out with a slight sourness from the tomato, crispy and at the same time soft. The kids and I loved it!!! I'll take note of the recipe!

It turns out quickly, very tasty and juicy! This is a wonderful vegetable dish, an alternative to stewed white cabbage. But it turns out more tender and delicate. In my opinion, this dish is best served hot, sprinkled with fresh herbs. Thanks for the recipe.
