thousand island sauce
Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make thousand island sauce? Prepare your food. The main criterion when choosing mayonnaise and ketchup is their taste. Take quality products, don't skimp on them. Instead of capers, you can use gherkins or olives. Add chili sauce to taste. You can make your own mayonnaise. You will find recipes for homemade mayonnaise after the last step.
STEP 2
Peel the onion and cut off half. Cut it into small cubes, the smaller the better. I specified red onion because it has a sweeter and milder taste. If you wish, you can use regular onion.
STEP 3
Also finely chop the capers. Do the same with cucumbers or olives if you are cooking with them.
STEP 4
Take a bowl, put mayonnaise, ketchup, hot chili sauce into it (you can do without it if you don’t like it spicy). Peel and press a clove of garlic through a press. Also adjust the amount of garlic to your taste. Add chopped onions and capers to the bowl.
STEP 5
Mix all ingredients well. The sauce is ready. You can also add a finely grated boiled chicken egg to it - the classic recipe is prepared with it. But for salads, I prefer the option without it.
STEP 6
Use the sauce for dressing vegetable salads, as well as when preparing burgers or shawarma. Bon appetit!
