  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to steam fish in a double boiler? Prepare the necessary products according to the list. Wash the lemon and dry with a napkin. Gut the fish and remove scales. I used trout, but you can use absolutely any fish or fish fillet.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Cut off the heads and tails. Rinse the carcasses under running water and dry with paper towels. Place the heads and tails in the freezer. In the future, you can use them to prepare excellent fish broth or cook fish soup.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Make cuts on each carcass as in the photo. Sprinkle the inside and outside of the trout with salt, ground pepper and the Italian herb mixture. The set of spices can be anything you like. Rub the seasonings over the entire surface of the fish and leave to marinate at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Next comes the main stage of preparation. Fish can be steamed in different ways. I used a pressure cooker (which is essentially a double boiler). Pour a small amount of water into the pan, add the peeled whole onion and bay leaf. Wait until it boils.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Place the fish on a wire rack pre-greased with vegetable oil and place in a double boiler. Cover with a lid, reduce the heat under the pan to moderate and leave the fish until cooked. How long to cook fish in a double boiler? It all depends on the type of fish, its size, equipment and stove.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Within 20-30 minutes my fragrant trout was ready. Your cooking time may differ from mine. You can check readiness by making an incision on the carcass. If you see clear juice, it means the fish is ready. An important point is not to overcook the fish on the grill, otherwise it will become dry.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Sprinkle the finished fish carcasses with lemon juice and serve. Delicious both hot and cold.

I bought fresh pike perch and wanted to cook this dietary fish as healthy as possible. On the website I found an excellent option for steaming fish in a double boiler. The good thing is that you can cook any fish using this recipe! I cooked in a slow cooker on the "steam" mode. I poured hot water into the bowl, into which I put bay leaves, allspice, carrots and garlic buds. This all flavors the fish very well! I separated the head and part of the tail from the pike perch and left them on the ear. I cut off all the fins and spines on the back so as not to get hurt. The carcass was divided in half and rubbed with paprika spices for fish. I didn’t have lemon, I used ready-made juice. Steamed for 30 minutes. The fish turned out very juicy, tasty and aromatic! A kind of dense crust formed on top. Looks and tastes like baked in the oven. I liked the pair even more! Next time I'll add potatoes. Thanks for the recipe!
