Red lentils in a slow cooker

Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1

How to cook red lentils in a slow cooker? Prepare your food. For preparation, it is better to use filtered or bottled water that is neutral in taste. If you use tap water, keep in mind that it may give the dish an unpleasant characteristic taste. Use any vegetable oil suitable for frying.
STEP 2

Sort the lentils, remove debris and unripe greenish grains. Lentils are much softer than peas and do not need to be soaked before cooking. I still soaked the cereal for 10 minutes, and even during this time the lentils swelled. If you also plan to do this, then soak the lentils for no more than 2 hours. Then rinse the cereal well under running cool water. Allow the water to drain by draining the lentils in a fine-mesh sieve or colander.
STEP 3

Wash and peel the onions and carrots. Then cut them as desired - I cut the onions into quarters of rings, and the carrots into cubes. You can grate it on a coarse grater. This is not important. Grind the garlic in any convenient way - with a knife, on a grater or through a press.
STEP 4

Pour vegetable oil into the multicooker bowl, add onions and carrots. Select the appropriate frying mode, “Frying” or “Bake”, depending on your multicooker model. Stirring, fry the vegetables until transparent, do not close the lid. When cooking in a multicooker, remember that the modes and times are approximate. Focus on how your equipment works. Read more about this in the article. Link at the end of the recipe.
STEP 5

Add lentils. Distribute it evenly over the bottom, mixing with vegetables.
STEP 6

Pour in water in the amount recommended by the manufacturer on the package; I used two parts of water for one part of lentils. But at the same time, the water should completely hide the grains.
STEP 7

After adding water, close the lid, in the “Cereals” or “Rice” mode (again, depending on the model) set the time to 20 minutes. 5 minutes before readiness, salt the lentils, add garlic, mix well. The finished porridge will be well boiled into puree; it looks and tastes very much like peas.
STEP 8

Serve the lentils hot as a separate dish or as a side dish, sprinkled with herbs. There are many options. Bon appetit!
