STEP 1

How to make herring heh in Korean with carrots and onions? Prepare your food. Take fresh, large herring. Do not defrost it completely before cooking - this will make the fish easier to cut. Instead of tomato paste, you can use any tomato sauce or ketchup. Take 9% vinegar, odorless oil. You can change the amount of spices to your taste.
STEP 2

Cut the herring. To do this, first cut off the head and tail. Cut the belly and remove the entrails. Make a cut along the back of the carcass, cutting out the top fin, and remove it. Remove the skin from the fish. Cut the carcass in half and remove the backbone. Cut off the lower part of the ribs along with the fins, remove the costal bones and the black film - it is bitter. Rinse and dry the fillet.
STEP 3

Cut the herring fillet into equal medium-sized pieces.
STEP 4

Peel the onion and cut into thin half rings.
STEP 5

Wash the carrots, peel and grate on a coarse grater or a Korean carrot grater.
STEP 6

Take a container, place chopped onions and carrots on the bottom, and place pieces of herring on top.
STEP 7

In a small bowl, mix tomato paste, vegetable oil, sugar, salt, both peppers, and vinegar for the marinade.
STEP 8

Pour the marinade over the herring and vegetables and mix them well so that the marinade is distributed throughout all the products. Close the container with a lid and put it in the refrigerator for a day.
