Flatbread fried in a frying pan

Delicious, airy, golden brown, a great alternative to bread! Flatbread fried in a frying pan tastes better fresh, like all yeast baked goods. They can be served with first and second courses instead of bread, or eaten just like that. Try it!

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to fry yeast cakes in oil in a frying pan? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Pour water preheated to 40 degrees into a deep bowl. It should be pleasantly warm, but not scalding. Otherwise, the yeast in it will die. Add sugar and dry yeast and mix everything well. You can also use fresh yeast. For information on how to properly replace different types of yeast, read the article about yeast at the link at the end of the recipe.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Leave the dough for 10-15 minutes to ferment. During this time, a so-called “cap” should appear, which indicates that the yeast has activated. If this does not happen, then you will have to replace the yeast.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Pour half of the prepared flour into the dough, which must be sifted in advance. Thanks to this, it will be saturated with oxygen, and the finished cakes will turn out more tender and fluffy. Sprinkle salt on top of the flour.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Start kneading the dough with a spoon, gradually adding the remaining flour in parts. Depending on the quality of flour, you may need a little more or a little less. You can read more about flour and its properties in a separate article, link at the end of the recipe. What consistency should the flatbread dough be? The dough turns out quite sticky. As soon as it comes away from the sides of the dish, do not add any more flour.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

I used exactly the amount of flour indicated in the ingredients. Grease your hands with vegetable oil and knead the dough for about 3 minutes.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Place the dough in a clean, dry bowl and grease the bottom with vegetable oil.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Cover the bowl with cling film and let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 30-40 minutes.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

The dough should increase 2.5-3 times.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Grease your hands and work surface with vegetable oil. Divide the dough into three equal parts, pinch off one piece at a time. I weighed the dough, it came out to 330 grams - I divided it into three pieces weighing 110 grams. Roll each piece into a ball.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Take one ball and knead it into a cake with your hands. I got a cake 1 centimeter thick and 14 centimeters in diameter. You can make the cake thicker or thinner as you wish. Form two more cakes.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Heat a frying pan with vegetable oil. Read about how to choose the perfect frying pan, as well as how to choose the right vegetable oil, in separate articles, links at the end of the recipe. Turn the heat to moderate. Place the flatbread in the pan and fry it on one side until golden brown. How long to fry the tortillas? I fried the flatbread on one side for 5 minutes and it turned out moderately fried. You may need a different amount of time.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

Turn the tortilla over to the other side and fry for a few more minutes. It took me 2 minutes because the second side cooks faster. Fry the remaining two flatbreads in the same way.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

    Bon appetit!

Yeast cakes are a hearty pastry, either instead of bread or simply with tea. Here is a video of a similar recipe.

The dough for flatbreads fried in a frying pan is mixed quite easily. To 250 ml of water I added 2.5 tsp of sugar and 1 tsp of salt. When you use butter rather than flour, so that it doesn’t stick to your hands and the rest of the equipment, the dough kneads faster, and when baking or frying, the baked goods become airy, soft and tender. This is how my fried flatbreads turned out. I poured just a little oil into the frying pan because the flatbreads were already covered in oil. These flatbreads go well with soups; I especially recommend frying flatbreads for borscht. And for breakfast you can have tea and jam.

My grandmother made these flatbreads, only the salty version. Sprinkle the butter that is used to grease the inside of the flatbread with salt and then the flatbread goes well with first courses instead of bread.

This week I made flatbreads fried in a frying pan according to this recipe. They turned out quite tasty and filling. The recipe calls for 200g of flour, but I used a little less. The consistency of the dough turned out to be thick, but during the frying process it was evenly distributed throughout the pan. Everything turned out great! We ate them with sour cream and honey!
