Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make Finnish pickled cucumbers for the winter? Take all the necessary ingredients. Choose firm, medium-sized cucumbers.
STEP 2
Soak the cucumbers in cold water for 2-3 hours. After this procedure, pickled cucumbers will definitely be crispy.
STEP 3
Start preparing the jars 10-20 minutes before the end of soaking the cucumbers. Sterilize the jars in any way convenient for you - in the oven, steamed or in the microwave. I simply pour boiling water over the jars, placing a spoon in the jar so that it does not crack.
STEP 4
Rinse the cucumbers well under cold running water. Trim the edges of the cucumbers and cut them into 2-3 cm pieces.
STEP 5
For the marinade, combine cold filtered water, mustard seeds, salt, bay leaves and granulated sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and pour in vinegar.
STEP 6
Add chopped cucumbers to the marinade. Let it boil and cook the cucumbers in the marinade for 5-7 minutes, reducing the heat to medium. Stir the cucumbers a couple of times during cooking.
STEP 7
After the specified time, the cucumbers will change their color from green to olive.
STEP 8
Use a sterile spoon to place the chopped cucumbers into sterile jars and fill them with marinade up to the neck. Place one bay leaf from the marinade in each jar.
STEP 9
Seal the cucumber jars with sterile lids. Turn it upside down, cover with a warm blanket and leave until completely cool.
STEP 10
Store Finnish pickled cucumbers in a dark and cool place for the winter. Be it a pantry or a basement, or just a kitchen cabinet. Delicious preparations for you!
