Chokeberry jam with apples

An extraordinary treat for connoisseurs of natural sweets. Aronia jam with apples turns out dark burgundy, with a unique aroma and tartness inherent exclusively in chokeberry. No other plant I know of produces similar notes in taste.

  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

To prepare chokeberry jam with apples, prepare the following ingredients: chokeberry fruits, sweet and sour apples, water and granulated sugar. Rowan can be used both fresh and frozen. It is even believed that the most delicious fruits come from frozen plants. Therefore, if you are lucky enough to get fresh chokeberry, freeze it in advance.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Pour filtered water into a pan of a suitable size with thick walls, add a third of the sugar and pour in the washed chokeberry fruits without petioles. Place the pan over medium heat and, without covering with a lid, cook for about forty minutes after the syrup boils.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Wash the apples under running water and remove the seed pods. Cut the apples into medium cubes. This way, they will be better visible in the finished jam by their shape, since the color of the apples will eventually be chokeberry, that is, dark burgundy.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Add the apples along with the remaining sugar to the pan and stir. If you are the happy owner of a cherry tree at your summer cottage, then at this stage you can add a few cherry leaves to the pan to flavor the jam.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Cook the jam under a closed lid over low heat for about forty minutes after boiling, stirring occasionally so that it does not burn. Due to the fact that everyone’s hobs are different, as well as the container in which the jam is cooked, the cooking time can vary significantly.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

You should focus on the consistency of the jam and its desired thickness. In any case, it should not be very liquid and flow from the spatula like syrup. The jam should thicken well and the apple pieces should become soft.

For the first time I made chokeberry jam with apples; for us it’s exotic. So I followed the steps to make sure everything worked out. I sorted through the rowan and washed it. It tastes tart, sweet, refreshing. The berry is very juicy and gives quite a lot of juice when cooked, without being overcooked. I boiled the rowan for about 30 minutes, after which I added pieces of apples and sugar. After 20 minutes of cooking, I realized that the apples would not be saturated with syrup. Therefore, I decided to remove the bowl from the heat and let the jam brew for a couple of hours. During this time, the apples completely drowned in syrup and became a beautiful dark red color. After this, all that remains is to bring the jam to a boil and put it into sterile jars. The total weight of apples and chokeberries is 1 kg, I got three jars of 400 ml each. The jam is very beautiful and tasty! The berries are all whole, and when you bite into them, they seem to burst. The syrup is thin, but the apple thickens it a little. This unusual and healthy jam is a must-have for the winter!

This jam must be very tasty! They say rowan lowers blood pressure, so you shouldn’t overuse it, and it will even be useful for hypertensive patients. We always make jam from aronia, it turns out so liquid, with berries! mmmm! and you should definitely try this! I went to look for where the mountain ash grows)))
