  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make cabbage for cabbage rolls in the microwave? Prepare all the necessary products. We only need cabbage. It doesn’t matter what it is: young, old harvest, or even Chinese cabbage. Only the cooking time will be different: young and savoy cabbage will be ready in less time than old-harvest cabbage. Read all about how microwaves work in the article at the end of this recipe.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Take a head of cabbage that is dense and elastic. Be sure to wash the cabbage well, preferably even with a brush. Remove the top 2-3 leaves. They are usually always damaged and dirty. Using a long, sharp knife, make several deep cuts around the stalk. In principle, you can remove it immediately, but it will be more convenient to do this when the cabbage is ready and becomes softer.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Place the cabbage in a plastic bag and tie it tightly. You can also wrap the cabbage in cling film.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Place the bagged cabbage in a microwave-safe bowl. Let me remind you that metal utensils, as well as utensils with shiny ornaments, cannot be used in such ovens. Due to the use of such utensils, the microwave oven may spark during use and may even catch fire. However, glass, ceramic and paper dishes are allowed for use.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Place the cabbage in the microwave. Cooking time depends on the power of your stove. I have a microwave power of 1000 and a cooking time of 15 minutes, with a power of 800 the cooking time will be 20 minutes, and with a power of 600 it will be 25 minutes. Focus on your equipment. When the oven turns off, leave the cabbage in it for another 5 minutes and only then take it out. To remove the head of cabbage from the microwave, use gloves, because. the dishes will be very hot.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Remove the head of cabbage from the bag - carefully, don’t get burned! Let it cool slightly and remove the stalk completely. The cabbage will be very soft. Carefully separate the sheets from each other and start making cabbage rolls!

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

The method is very simple, fast and time-saving. Bon appetit!

I have a microwave, but I didn’t think of preparing leaves for cabbage rolls there, thanks for the idea, I’ll try it. I also discovered that the cabbage rolls themselves can be cooked in the microwave.

I cook cabbage rolls extremely rarely precisely because I don’t want to bother with cabbage. Now, thanks to these tips, I know how to prepare cabbage for cabbage rolls in the microwave. Fast, simple, no hassles. I had a head of cabbage weighing almost 2 kg. I wrapped it in cling film and put it in the microwave for 15 minutes (1000 W). After this time, it seemed to me that the cabbage was not soft enough and I left it for another four minutes. This method of preparing cabbage is very convenient. The cabbage leaves come off like magic. Now preparing cabbage rolls will not take much time and effort. Natalya, thank you very much for this advice!

I don’t know what power my microwave is, but for cabbage weighing 2 kg, I set it for 20 minutes. It was cooked magnificently, the leaves themselves fell apart and moved away from the stalk. I thought it would somehow affect the taste, but no, after cooking the cabbage rolls, the cabbage is just as incredibly tasty. The only thing is that during cooking in a pan, there is no cabbage smell due to the addition of vinegar to the water. Unfortunately, this won’t work in the microwave and the cabbage smell will be everywhere.
