  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make Armenian homemade lavash? Very simple! Prepare all the necessary ingredients.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Pour salt into hot water and stir until the crystals are completely dissolved.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Sift the flour into a deep bowl. I immediately sifted it into a bowl from a kitchen machine, in which I kneaded the dough. Make a depression in the middle of the flour. Remember that you may need a little less or more flour, depending on its properties, focus on the consistency of the dough. You can read more about the properties of flour in an article on this topic. Link at the end of the recipe.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Pour in hot water with salt and vegetable oil.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Knead the dough. At first it will turn out very tight, but as you knead it will become more flexible. You need to knead the dough for about 15-20 minutes.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Cover the dough with a towel and leave to rest for 30 minutes.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Divide the dough into 4-5 equal pieces and roll them into balls. Place the balls under a towel to prevent them from becoming airy.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Sprinkle the work surface with flour to prevent the dough from sticking. Roll each ball into a thin circle equal to the diameter of the pan in which the pita bread will be baked.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Bake each flatbread in a dry, hot frying pan over low heat. Bake each side until golden brown spots appear on the pita bread. Then flip to the other side and continue baking. The second side bakes much faster, watch this and do not leave the stove. How to choose a frying pan, read the article at the end of this recipe.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Transfer the finished Armenian lavash in a frying pan made at home to a plate, sprinkle with water and cover with a towel. This will make the thin Armenian lavash soft. Bon appetit!

I have long wanted to try making homemade lavash because of its special, favorite taste. So when I saw this recipe, I started cooking. I needed the simplest products - flour, salt, water and vegetable oil. I prepared it for 3 servings, not much at all, just for testing. Having combined the ingredients, I kneaded the dough. I got it cool, smooth, elastic. I rolled out the flatbreads very easily and fried them in a dry frying pan on both sides. The first pita bread did not fry very well due to the fact that the frying pan was not hot enough. But the rest turned out perfectly - rosy, soft, fluffy. It was interesting to observe how, once in the frying pan, the cakes within a minute began to rise and swell right before our eyes. The resulting homemade Armenian lavash has the same taste, my favorite. Thank you very much for the wonderful recipe!

I decided to make homemade Armenian lavash. The dough is kneaded in hot salted water with the addition of vegetable oil, so it turns out elastic and does not stick to your hands at all. After the dough had rested for half an hour, I divided it into five parts and rolled it out thinly along the diameter of the frying pan. From the dough scraps we made another, sixth flatbread. Baked in a thick, hot, dry frying pan. Sprinkled the finished pita bread with water and covered it with a towel. Now homemade lavash can be served with first courses instead of bread, and can be used to make shawarma and snack rolls. Tasty and healthy! Thanks for the recipe, Maria!

I really love cooking, and especially all kinds of baked goods. But somehow it didn’t work out with Armenian lavash, although I didn’t do it at all as described here, and not in the oven, but in a frying pan, and they always turned out like rubber. I’d like to try it your way follow the recipe, maybe it will work. Then I’ll post how it turned out

As far as I know, lavash is valued because it is a yeast-free dough and is prepared by frying in a frying pan without oil. In Azerbaijan they do exactly this and it turns out very tasty and soft lavash in which lula kebab, greens with cheese, etc. are wrapped

Thanks for the recipe. There was no need to dust with flour; the dough rolled out perfectly and did not stick at all to either the rolling pin or the silicone mat.
