  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make shrimp in tomato sauce? Prepare your food. Any shrimp will do, I used boiled and frozen unpeeled ones, you can take raw ones, but then the cooking time will be different, keep this in mind. Thaw frozen shrimp first and drain the water from underneath them. Adjust the amount of garlic, ginger and spices to your taste. Instead of tomato sauce, tomato paste or any tasty ketchup will also work.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Peel the onion and cut into small cubes.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Grate the peeled garlic and ginger root on a fine grater. Alternatively, you can cut them into thin slices, but then they will be more noticeable in the sauce. I like the grated version better.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Heat a frying pan over medium heat, pour vegetable oil into it for frying. Read about how to choose the ideal frying pan, as well as how to choose the right vegetable oil in separate articles, links at the end of the recipe. Place onion in hot oil. Fry it, stirring occasionally, until translucent, a few minutes. Then add grated (or chopped) garlic and ginger to the onion. Fry everything together for a couple more minutes.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Add tomato sauce to the pan. And after it, start pouring water in portions, stirring them together. As soon as the sauce reaches the desired consistency (liquid yogurt), stop adding water. Not all my water was gone. Boil the sauce over low heat at a low simmer for 5-10 minutes. It will boil down and thicken. Add salt, sugar (it is needed to neutralize the acid) and ground black pepper.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Add shrimp to sauce. Stir and heat them in the slightly simmering sauce for a few minutes. If your shrimp are raw, cook them in the sauce longer until cooked (the time will depend on the type and size of the shrimp). But don’t overdo it - shrimp can become rubbery from prolonged heat treatment. Finally, turn off the heat and cover the pan with a lid. Leave the dish to stand for 10 minutes so that the shrimp are saturated with the aromas of the sauce.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Serve the shrimp hot or cold. Bon appetit!

I really love shrimp, especially in tomato sauce. Thank you for the recipe! I also saw a similar one, where a Chinese guy shares his recipe, it’s probably delicious too
