  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to bake mussels in the oven with cheese? Prepare all the indicated ingredients. Choose mussels in unopened shells, preferably frozen in vacuum packaging. If mussels are sold with their shells open, do not buy such seafood!

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Melt the butter in a water bath and let it cool. Grate the hard cheese on a fine mesh grater and add to the bowl with the butter. Peel a couple of garlic cloves, rinse and crush with a press directly onto the grated cheese. Add salt and mix the whole mass. If desired, you can add chopped herbs and ground red pepper - it will add a piquant flavor to the dish, but if children will eat such an appetizer, then remove the bitter ingredients from the list.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Using a knife, carefully open the shells and remove the second flap of each shell, cut off the muscle and gizzard of the mussels, then rinse the seafood. Line a baking dish with foil and place shells with peeled mussels on it in a circle. If you don’t find shelled mussels on sale, then buy regular boiled, frozen, peeled ones. Rinse them and place them in an even layer on foil, cover with cheese mixture before baking.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Spoon some of the garlic cheese mixture into each shell, being careful not to drop it onto the pan. You can press the mass onto the shells with your hands. Place the pan in a preheated oven and bake at 180 C for about 15-20 minutes until the cheese surface is browned. The time indicated is approximate, be guided by the operating characteristics of your oven.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Remove the pan from the oven and let the prepared snack cool slightly. You can sprinkle mussels with cheese and garlic with chopped herbs or ground red pepper. When baking, the mussels will release juice.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Serve the baked mussels with a squeeze of lime or lemon to drizzle over before tasting. Mussels with cheese in shells with a glass of white sparkling wine are especially tasty - it is often prepared for a romantic dinner, because mussels are a natural aphrodisiac. Bon appetit!

I'll definitely try it. I love mussels, especially with pasta in creamy sauce.

I really love this recipe, but instead of butter I take mayonnaise and add parsley

I really liked this version of preparing mussels. I usually bake mussels with a sauce that includes mayonnaise and then melted butter. I was a little scared, so I decided to make half a batch. My mussels were large, so half of the prepared filling was enough for 7 green giant Kiwi mussels. The only thing I don’t understand is why butter is heated in a water bath, if it can just be melted over low heat. And so, the recipe is very good.
