  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to make moonshine from plums at home? Prepare all the necessary products. Take plums that are ripe and aromatic, but without external damage. It is preferable to take fresh yeast, but they can be replaced with dry and wine yeast.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Remove the pits from the plums and place them in a fermentation container. Do not wash plums under any circumstances, as plums contain a large number of bacteria that cause fermentation. Take a glass container; other materials (plastic, metal) may react with the fermented mixture. I use a large glass jar.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Next, chop the plums. My plums are very soft, so I just mashed them into a puree using a masher. But you may have to use a blender.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Add sugar to the fermentation container.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Break the yeast, add a spoonful of sugar to it.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Dissolve the yeast with warm water and wait for it to become active. The water should not be hot, the temperature should not exceed 40 degrees.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Pour the yeast into the fermentation container.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

    Mix everything.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Put on a disposable glove and put the jar in a dark place for fermentation. The air temperature should be from 20 to 28 degrees.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

As soon as the glove is inflated, fermentation begins. It can last from 10 to 20 days. I fermented for 12 days. Then the glove will lower again, which means the mash is ready for distillation.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Strain it and pour it into the moonshine still.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

Assemble the moonshine still according to the instructions. If necessary, connect cold water hoses. Put it on fire. Do not allow the temperature to rise above 80 degrees. Once the temperature reaches 70 degrees, turn on cold water to cool the product. Collect the finished moonshine in a separate bowl. In principle, it is ready for use, but has a pronounced moonshine aroma. Therefore, I recommend a second distillation.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

Then the moonshine will be cleaner. To do this, dilute the resulting moonshine to a strength of 20 degrees - take 500 ml of water per liter of moonshine. Pour the diluted moonshine into the moonshine still and distill again in the same way. This time, collect the first and last 100 ml of moonshine in a separate bowl; they are not suitable for consumption. They need to be thrown out. Pour the remaining moonshine into bottles and let it brew for a couple of days.

  14. STEP 14

    STEP 14

You can tint the moonshine with a drop of tea leaves. Be careful when drinking alcohol!
