  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to marinate herring with onions and vinegar? Prepare the necessary ingredients for this. Cut off the head of the finished salted herring and take out the insides. Cut it in half lengthwise, remove the backbone, large bones and remove the skin from the fish. You can change the amount of onion slightly to suit your taste. But there must be a sufficient amount of it. Pickled onions are also very tasty.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Cut the cleaned herring fillet into portions. There is no need to cut it very large, 3-5 cm is enough. Place the chopped herring in the bowl in which you will marinate it. Use glassware. It will be easier to clean later. Plastic dishes will smell like onions and fish for a long time.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

For pickling, use 9% vinegar. Combine it with water in a ratio of 1:3. Vinegar cannot be replaced with essence! But it can be replaced with grape or apple (it gives a specific aroma).

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Peel the onion and rinse in cold running water. Cut the peeled onion into half rings and crush it a little with your hands. This is necessary so that the onion becomes softer and releases juice faster.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Mix the onion and herring and pour a mixture of water and vinegar over everything. For flavor, you can add a few peppercorns and a bay leaf. Marinate the herring for 5-6 hours in the refrigerator.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Remove the tasty and aromatic pickled herring from the marinade, place on a dish and serve. You can pour a little vegetable oil on it. Bon appetit!

Lately I have fallen in love with marinated herring with onions and vinegar. But cutting it up is not a very exciting activity, but you can spend time and effort for such a tasty treat) I had two herrings, I didn’t weigh them. After cutting, I cut the fillet thinner, milk and caviar into three parts. I also took more onion, it turns out so tasty and sour. It took me 600 ml for two medium herrings. water and accordingly 200 ml. vinegar. I think the proportions are just right, I liked this ratio. I started trying it after a couple of hours) But the next day, of course, the herring was well soaked in the marinade and became simply magnificent. The appearance became a little lighter, the taste of the herring itself became less intense, and a sour taste appeared. Pickled onions are also very tasty, you can eat them instead of a side dish) I liked the recipe, I recommend it!

The other day, unexpected guests were supposed to come to us. And I decided to prepare pickled herring with vinegar and onions according to this recipe. She took the ready-salted herring, cut off the head, and removed the entrails. I made an incision along the ridge. I divided the fish into two parts. I removed the backbone, large bones and skin. I cut it into pieces about 5 centimeters. I cut the onion into half rings, you can take more of it. And she crushed it a little with her hands to release the juice. And got busy with the marinade. In a glass I combined water and vinegar 9℅, in a ratio of 1:3. I put the pieces of herring in a container and added onions with marinade, and for flavor added black peppercorns and finely chopped dill. I didn't add the bay leaf. I closed the container with a lid and put it in the refrigerator for 6 hours. After 3 hours, I took the fish out of the refrigerator, mixed it and put it back in the refrigerator. Herring can be served on the table as an independent dish as an appetizer. Or you can have it with a side dish, for example, round potatoes. It's just a wonderful combination. The pickled herring turned out incredibly tasty and aromatic. The guests were delighted. If desired, it can be topped with vegetable oil.
