Step-by-step preparation

Cooking timeCooking time: 1 hr 35 mins
  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to bake garlic buns for borscht in the oven using yeast dough? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. It is better to take refined vegetable oil so as not to overpower the aroma of parsley and garlic. Instead of parsley, you can take cilantro or dill.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Sift the flour through a fine sieve. Thanks to this, it will be saturated with oxygen, and the finished buns will turn out more magnificent and airy. Add sugar and salt and stir. Then add dry yeast and stir. But you look at your yeast, some must first be introduced into the liquid and only then combined with the dry ingredients. Read about all the intricacies of working with yeast in a separate article (link at the end of the recipe).

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Mix vegetable oil and warm water. Pour the liquid into the flour mixture. The water should be exactly warm, 38-40 degrees. In cold water the yeast will not activate, but in too hot it will die.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Knead a soft, non-stick dough. Depending on the quality of flour, you may need a little more. You can read more about flour and its properties in a separate article, link at the end of the recipe. Knead the dough for at least 10 minutes, as yeast dough loves your hands. Transfer the dough to a large bowl.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Cover the bowl with the dough with a towel or plastic bag and put it in a warm place for 40 minutes until the dough rises approximately twice. You can knead the dough in a bread machine and wait for it to proof there. I put the bowl of dough in the multicooker and set the temperature to 45 degrees for 40 minutes with the lid closed.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Remove the dough from the bowl and divide into pieces. I ended up with four hefty pieces, which I rolled into balls and placed in a silicone mold. You can simply place them in a baking dish at a distance, greased with vegetable oil. Read about how to choose a baking dish in a separate article at the link at the end of the recipe. Turn on the oven to preheat to 180 degrees.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Place the workpieces in a warm place for 10 minutes to rise, be sure to cover them with a towel or bag so that they do not get airy. This should not be allowed, as the workpieces will become crusty. It will crack during baking and the buns will turn out ugly.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Beat a small egg with a fork until smooth. If you don’t like this kind of crust, then brush the surface of the buns with strong, sweet black tea. The result will also be a very beautiful color scheme, although without much gloss.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

Brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Bake the buns in a hot oven at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes until done. The exact time and temperature will vary depending on your oven. You can learn about the operating features of ovens by reading a separate article, link at the end of the recipe.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

While the buns are baking, make the garlic sauce. Pour water and vegetable oil into a bowl. Add salt, finely grated garlic and finely chopped parsley. Mix everything thoroughly until the salt dissolves.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

Remove the finished buns and immediately brush with garlic sauce. Leave them for 1-2 minutes and lubricate again.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

Let the buns sit in the pan for five minutes, then transfer from the pans to a plate.

  14. STEP 14

    STEP 14

    Bon appetit!

These buns are really perfect for borscht! Thanks for the recipe. For savory baked goods, I also like these cheese buns for a snack or instead of bread.

I prepared garlic buns for the soup in the oven using yeast dough. I used about 180 grams of flour (high grade). Instead of fresh herbs, I added dried thyme to the sauce. I don’t have a special form for baking buns, so I simply baked them on a baking sheet lined with siliconized parchment. I cooked the buns for 20 minutes: 10 minutes on the middle level of the oven and 10 minutes on the highest. The buns turned out to be very fragrant, soft, fluffy. They go perfectly with soup! Thank you very much for the recipe!

Very nice dough! The buns turned out perfect, I really liked them. Instead of using a silicone mold, however, I simply baked them on a baking sheet. And I tied the buns with a bow to make them more interesting. It seems to me that my experiment was successful.
