Chokeberry jam
Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to make chokeberry jam for the winter? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Chokeberry is harvested in the fall from September to November. It’s good when the berries are from your own plot, grown in environmentally friendly areas. Chokeberry must be well ripe, otherwise the product will turn out bitter and tart. Jam can also be made from frozen chokeberries.
STEP 2
Sort the chokeberry berries, wash them, remove rotten and spoiled berries. Place the chokeberry in a colander and let the water drain completely. Rinse the cans of soda in advance and sterilize them in a way convenient for you. How to calculate the required number of cans, as well as other interesting information about preservation, read the articles about preparations, links are at the end of the recipe.
STEP 3
Place the berries in a metal bowl, add boiling water so that all the berries are submerged and blanch them over medium heat until soft. A few minutes are enough, depending, of course, on the variety, degree of ripeness and size of the berry. Then drain the water and place the berries in a colander.
STEP 4
Place the rowan berries in a saucepan with a thick bottom that will not oxidize when interacting with berry juice. An article on saucepans, the link at the end of the recipe, will help you choose the ideal saucepan for soup. Pour sugar into the saucepan with the berries and grind them with a masher or blender. If such devices are not available, you can use a meat grinder. The degree of grinding depends on what consistency you want the jam to be: like puree or with pieces of berries.
STEP 5
Place the mixture of chokeberry and sugar on the fire, bring to a boil and simmer over medium heat for about 5 minutes from the moment the mixture boils. The jam must be constantly stirred so that the sugar does not stick to the bottom and is completely dissolved.
STEP 6
Immediately pour the jam into pre-prepared and sterilized jars. Roll up the jars with lids and store them in a cool place.
STEP 7
Bon appetit!
