Chickpeas for garnish

Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1

How to make chickpeas as a side dish at home? Very simple! Prepare all the necessary ingredients.
STEP 2

Sort the chickpeas and pre-soak them overnight in plenty of cold water. Then drain the water and rinse the chickpeas. Place the chickpeas in a saucepan or saucepan with a thick bottom. Pour in water. Place the saucepan on the stove and cook over medium heat for about 1 hour. By the end of cooking, the chickpeas should be soft on the inside, but intact and even slightly tough on the outside. After all, it will still need to be simmered in a frying pan.
STEP 3

Place the finished chickpeas in a colander and let the water drain.
STEP 4

Peel the garlic and finely chop it with a knife. You can also chop garlic using a press.
STEP 5

Heat olive oil in a deep frying pan. Add garlic and cook over medium heat, stirring, for 1 minute. If desired, you can add finely chopped onion to the garlic. How to choose a frying pan and oil for frying, read the separate articles at the end of the recipe.
STEP 6

Add tomatoes in their own juice, tomato paste, dried oregano, salt and pepper to the garlic. Mix everything. You can add any spices to your taste. Tomatoes in their own juice can be replaced with fresh tomatoes. They need to be cut crosswise, doused with boiling water and peeled. Cut the pulp into small pieces. It is better to use fleshy tomatoes.
STEP 7

Spread the chickpeas evenly on top. Simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes.
STEP 8

At the end, mix everything and remove the pan from the heat. Serve delicious chickpeas as a side dish with any main dish. Bon appetit!
