Caramelized pumpkin pieces with sugar baked in the oven
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1

How to bake pumpkin pieces with sugar in the oven? To make delicious caramelized pumpkin in the oven, it is important to choose the most flavorful and juicy pumpkin. The thicker the layer of pulp, the tastier the dish will be. Muscat pumpkin varieties are well suited for this dish - they have few seeds and a thick layer of pulp. If you have a whole pumpkin, cut a segment of the desired weight from it.
STEP 2

Combine sugar with vanilla and mix. If you don't have vanilla, replace it with 1 tsp. vanilla sugar, or you can replace all sugar with vanilla. This will not affect the taste of the pumpkin. But you should not sprinkle more vanilla than on the tip of a knife - in large quantities it gives a strong bitterness. You may ruin the dish.
STEP 3

Remove seeds from pumpkin. Cut the prepared slice into large pieces directly with the peel. The peel will protect the vegetable from burning and sticking to the pan.
STEP 4

Place the pumpkin, skin side down, in a heat-resistant baking dish. Pour about 1 cm of clean drinking water into the bottom of the dish. This is necessary so that the pumpkin does not stick to the bottom during baking and does not dry out. However, my pumpkin also released a little juice during baking, so it wouldn’t have stuck anyway. But water helps to steam the vegetable and soften it faster. If you don't want to pour water into the pumpkin pan, place the pan with water on the bottom of the oven.
STEP 5

Sprinkle the pumpkin pieces evenly with sugar and vanilla. Place the pan in an oven preheated to 240°C. If your oven has a grill setting, turn it on. Bake the pumpkin until the sugar has dissolved and the pumpkin has softened. This may take from 25 to 40 minutes, depending on the type of pumpkin and the thickness of the pieces. In some places, brown marks may appear on the surface of the pumpkin on strongly protruding parts. If you want to avoid them, cover the pan with foil.
STEP 6

Remove the finished pumpkin from the oven, transfer to a plate and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. If you wish, you can sprinkle the dessert with pomegranate seeds or fresh berries and garnish with mint. Bon appetit!
