  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to cook canned fish soup with millet? Prepare your food. You can use red or white canned fish according to your taste. I have a sardine in oil. Shake the can before purchasing. The more liquid there is, the less fish there is.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Remove the fish from the jar, shake off the liquid and break into pieces or mash with a fork. If any bones are too large, remove them.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Sort the millet and rinse thoroughly until the water is clear. Interesting and useful information about millet can be found in a separate article, the link is at the end of the recipe.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Wash the potatoes, peel and cut into medium cubes.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Peel the carrots and cut into half rings.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Peel the onion and cut into medium pieces. If you or your children do not like onions, you can not add them to the soup at all or add the whole onion at the very beginning of cooking and then throw it away. You can replace the red onion with a simple onion.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Wash the parsley, dry and finely chop. If you wish, you can replace or supplement with other herbs, for example, dill, cilantro, green onions, or use a mixture of different herbs.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Place the washed millet and bay leaves into the pan. Pour in 2 liters of clean water. Place the pan over medium heat. Bring the water to a boil and cook the millet for about 10 minutes. See the package for the total cooking time for the millet; on average it is 25 minutes. For information on the amount of water for the soup, see the end of the recipe. How to choose a pan, read a separate article at the end of this recipe.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

While the millet is cooking, heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add onions and carrots. Fry, stirring, 4-5 minutes.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Transfer the roasted vegetables to the pan. Next add the potatoes. Cook everything together for about 15 minutes.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

Add canned fish, salt and pepper to taste to the soup. Cook for about 5 minutes or longer until the potatoes and millet are cooked through.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

At the end, add chopped herbs. Turn off the fire.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

Pour the soup with canned fish and millet into bowls and serve. Bon appetit!

It turned out to be a delicious, thick and satisfying soup! The millet boiled well, you couldn’t feel the grains, which I really liked (I like to cook porridge longer, until it’s soft). In general, the cereal fit perfectly into the overall picture and went well with fish and vegetables. During cooking, I put the millet into the pan first. I used less water for the soup than in the recipe, a little more than one liter. While the millet was cooking, I fried onions and carrots in a frying pan. I added vegetables to the millet, added potatoes, prepared seasoning, and salt. I cooked canned fish soup with millet for 15 minutes. Then I added the fish and cooked until the potatoes were done. At the end I added a bay leaf. Relatives appreciated the soup. I received the most precious thing from them - the exclamation “delicious!” I will now prepare fish soups with millet! Thank you very much for the recipe!
