  1. STEP 1

    STEP 1

How to cook cabbage soup with canned fish and fresh cabbage? Prepare all products according to the list. What canned food is better to take? You can use absolutely any canned fish in oil or tomato sauce. This time I have sprats in tomato.

  2. STEP 2

    STEP 2

Peel and wash potatoes, onions and carrots.

  3. STEP 3

    STEP 3

Cut the potatoes into small cubes and place in a saucepan. Fill with water (about 1.5 liters or a little more) and place on the stove. Bring everything to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and cook the potatoes, covered, until half cooked. It took me about 10 minutes.

  4. STEP 4

    STEP 4

Meanwhile, fry it. Finely chop the onion and grate the carrots using a coarse grater. Heat odorless vegetable oil in a frying pan.

  5. STEP 5

    STEP 5

Fry the onion and carrots, stirring constantly until golden brown.

  6. STEP 6

    STEP 6

Add tomato paste and mix everything well. Instead of tomato paste, you can use fresh tomatoes, ketchup or tomato juice.

  7. STEP 7

    STEP 7

Simmer everything over low heat for about 5-7 minutes.

  8. STEP 8

    STEP 8

Rinse the head of cabbage and remove the outer damaged leaves. Chop the cabbage into thin strips, as in the photo.

  9. STEP 9

    STEP 9

When the potatoes are almost ready, add fresh cabbage to the pan. Increase the heat at this stage of cooking.

  10. STEP 10

    STEP 10

Next, add the roasted tomato vegetables to the soup. Mix everything and leave to simmer for about 5 minutes.

  11. STEP 11

    STEP 11

At the end of cooking, add canned fish to the cabbage soup. If the pieces of fish are large, then first break them with a fork into smaller pieces. Salt everything to taste. Keep on the stove for about three to five minutes.

  12. STEP 12

    STEP 12

    Add bay leaf.

  13. STEP 13

    STEP 13

Rinse the greens and chop finely. Dill or green onions are perfect for soup. Add greens and finely chopped garlic (if using) to the cabbage soup. Let the soup simmer for about a minute and remove from heat.

  14. STEP 14

    STEP 14

Fish soup made from fresh cabbage and canned food is ready. When serving, offer each person ground black pepper.

I have never cooked or even tried cabbage soup with canned fish. It turned out to be very tasty! I had canned pink salmon in its own juice. I did not add marinade, but pre-washed the fish pieces with boiled water. Canned tomatoes should probably be used completely, so the taste will be more intense. I cooked cabbage soup from young cabbage, so I added it at the end before adding the frying. I additionally added coarsely chopped tomatoes to the fried vegetables. Such cabbage soup cooks quickly, because you don’t need to waste time cooking meat broth. And in the summer heat this is more than relevant). The taste of fish soup turned out to be unusual for me. But this is even more interesting, you always want to try something new! Thanks for the detailed recipe with beautiful photos!

I really love fish soup, and not only from fresh cabbage. Sometimes I cook them with canned fish, sometimes with frozen or fresh fish. This is an easy, delicious first course to whip up. I also added a stalk of celery and left out the tomato paste. I also had canned food without it.
