Zemelach cookies with cinnamon
Ingredients
Step-by-step preparation
STEP 1
How to bake homemade Zemelach cinnamon cookies? Prepare the following ingredients. Wheat flour, egg category C0. You can use regular sugar for cookies, or finely ground sugar, but for sprinkling, use coarse sugar. Remove the butter from the refrigerator in advance (2 - 3 hours before cooking). If this is not possible, then it can be softened in the microwave, but not melted.
STEP 2
Place softened butter in a deep bowl, add broken raw egg and sugar. Mix everything in a convenient way (fork, whisk, mixer) into a homogeneous or uniform mass.
STEP 3
Add milk to the dough, mix evenly again. Add the required amount of flour with baking powder and salt and knead the dough. The dough is sticky, but can be gathered into a ball. Wrap the dough in cling film and refrigerate for 30 - 40 minutes. Depending on the quality of flour, you may need a little more or a little less. You can read more about flour and its properties in a separate article, link at the end of the recipe.
STEP 4
Turn on the oven to preheat to 180 degrees. Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator. It is already less sticky, but in order to roll it out without any problems, you need to lay out baking paper, put the dough on it, another sheet of paper on top and roll it through it. Roll out the dough into a not very thin layer. Transfer it to a baking tray.
STEP 5
Using a knife or spatula, cut the dough into diamond shapes.
STEP 6
Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle evenly over entire surface of dough. It’s better to use a medium sieve for this, it will turn out more evenly. To help the topping stick, you can run a rolling pin on top without pressing too hard. Place the cookies in a preheated oven for 15 - 25 minutes, depending on the brownness of the cookies. The exact time depends on your oven. You can learn about the operating features of ovens by reading a separate article, link at the end of the recipe.
STEP 7
Remove the finished cookies from the oven and once again, while they are hot, run a knife along the cuts, separating them completely from each other. Let the finished cookies cool and serve with a glass of milk, a cup of tea or coffee. The cookies can be stored for several days in an open container at room temperature. Bon appetit!
